Story: Fed Up

Misc Story.  Juliana is irritated with her best friend, who seems to have fallen in love with the stupid, bible-thumping, air-headed Claire-Elizabeth.  She's also irritated with Christianity in general.  Eventually she unleashes all of her rage and anger, and her older brother steps in to see if he can remind her to chill out before she takes it too far.  (Very plotsy.)

Fed-up
by Breanna Carter

"Band practice is actually kind of fun without Claire-Elizabeth," I told my best friend, Cameron, as I slid into the front seat of his car next to him.

"You should be nice to her," he admonished. "She's a good person and doesn't mean to come off as..." he paused, looking for the right word.

"Bitchy?" I completed.

"I was going to be nicer than that, but yeah... she's a bit bitchy. You can't blame her though, she just wants everything to be perfect."

I shook my head. It was a touchy subject with Cameron and me. He had been the one who wanted us to play as a band for his church. I mean, we needed the money, and a gig, but I really didn't want to be known as the Christian band, because we were far from it. Half of us were atheist, the half being me and the drummer, Dylan. Cameron was uber-Christian, but not so much that he annoyed us, and our other guitarist, Jade, was sort of Christian, but never went to church. Then we had Claire-Elizabeth who had practically begged to be in the band, and it annoyed me to no end... for a number of reasons.

First and foremost: she was a bible-thumper. She tried to shove religion down everyone's throats and figured I was an atheist from day one. She always brought her bible and insisted on praying aloud before band practice. It wouldn't bother me as much if she didn't always glare at me every Sunday when the preacher asked for everyone who hadn't accepted Christ into their hearts to come to the front. Another reason I didn't like her was because she practically drooled all over Cameron. He's *my* territory, thankyouverymuch. And lastly, she just barged into the band. I was the youngest and the only female. Now I had competition. And I had to get rid of it. But Cameron definitely wasn't helping.

"So we're going to practice for the tournament?" I asked Cameron, after a few minutes of him driving in silence.

"Yeah, we can do that. Claire-Elizabeth said she might stop by for a little while. She wants to see what all the DDR craze is about."

I scowled. What the hell... is it not enough that she ruined my band, now she has to ruin my arcade? Ohh, I would so get her back for this. "Sounds great," I mumbled. "Maybe those kids will be there so we can show off?"

"Sure thing."

"And Shaun said I could stay until midnight tonight, since the tournament is close."

Cameron nodded again, focused on driving.

I slumped down in my seat, trying to take my mind away from the fact that I was totally crushing on my best friend who had no interest in me other than just a friend. Dammit. I guess I could deal with it if it was anyone other than stupid Claire-Elizabeth that he wanted. Who could want her? All she did was twirl her hair on her finger and talk about Jesus and she really couldn't even sing that well.

It was dark when we pulled into the arcade. I could see the middle school kids through the glass: they were already on the machine. Hell, I'd even rather one of those brats win away Cameron's heart than Claire-Elizabeth.

"The kids are here," Cameron said, smiling.

I smiled back as he put on his beanie, stumbling out of the car in his baggy jeans. I pulled my hair back into a ponytail and stalked inside behind my friend, waving at the arcade workers because we knew them so well. They at least liked us, which is more than I could say for most of the people that went there. And it wasn't because of our age: They hated most of the kids our age. That's because they're obnoxious, though. Like a specific person I'll call "Holic Boy" because that's the only song he can play in heavy mode. And he thinks he's so cool.

When we got to the machine, the middle school girls were playing away, laughing at each other and playing in one of the easy modes. I gave a fake yawn and looked towards Cameron who was still smiling, then we put a quarter on the machine to reserve our next spot. These girls were trying to show off and it was mildly entertaining, since we were two levels better than them.

The most amusing part was when they were in the middle of a song and this pissed-off guy walks up and practically drags one of the girls off the machine. Ohhh I love drama. About halfway through the screaming match (though she was the only one who was actually yelling) I realized that this must be the girl's older brother and he was livid. Then, as if the fact that she was being a total brat wasn't enough, she turned to her friend and asked her to pick another song.

I glanced at Cameron, "I'd so slap the shit out of that girl if she was mouthing off to me like that.."

Cameron nodded.

I missed what exactly happened next, just that in a matter of seconds, he was carrying her under his arm out of the arcade. She was kicking and screaming to no end. It was great...

The girl's friend blushed and looked back at the crowd around the machine and asked if anyone wanted to play her friend's last song.

Definitely, yo.

I hopped up in my baggy jeans, smiled at the girl and let her pick the song, while I put myself on a harder level. She noticed me doing this and decided to pick a super hard song, but have no fear, I could pass it. Because I'm that awesome. And I impressed Cameron like you wouldn't believe. See, he's half-Asian, so when most people look at him they automatically think he's spectacular at DDR (because the game originated in Japan... and that should make a difference as to who's the best at it). And he really is that great, and the one who got me hooked for that matter... but sometimes I still manage to impress him, and everyone else, because they don't expect a girl, especially an American girl in baggy jeans, to play that well.

I played a few games before Claire-Elizabeth came trotting in with her Jesus shirt and conservative jeans on. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at her. The middle schooler gave a slight giggle at my annoyance.

"Hey, Juliana!" she yelped, and gave me a slight hug as if I wanted to touch her or something.

"Hey, Claire-Elizabeth!" I imitated, hoping she noted my sarcasm.

This was the beginning to a dramatic night.

I think it was bad enough that Claire-Elizabeth was there. That's what started off the crappy part of my night. Then Cameron had to go and pay so much attention to her, showing her how to play and congratulating her and all this lubby dubby crap that made me sick. THEN, to make matters worse, annoying "Holic boy" came in and decided he wanted to try and show everyone up, though he failed miserably. I don't just hate him because he thinks he's cool and he's not. It's the fact that he's completely cocky and doesn't give anyone a chance at anything. And he and his friends hog the machine and get all bitchy when someone else wants to play. Then he tries to pick everyone's songs and if they can't play it, he keeps bugging them to let him play. So when I actually did get the chance to play, without Cameron of course (because Claire-Elizabeth was hogging him), I was stuck playing with the middle school girl and Holic boy at my side trying to pick my songs for me. I'm completely capable of doing that myself.

So everything was going semi-okay until I was in the middle of a really super hard song... one that I'd played a few times before and only passed once. I was doing great when Holic boy walked up, straight in front of me (even if he's younger than me, he's still taller) to put a quarter on the machine. He blocked my line of vision and distracted me so much that I lost it... not only lost it with the game, but my temper, too.

"Excuse me, but do you have to fucking walk up in front of someone while they're playing?" I yelled, stopping in the middle of the game to turn and look at him.

"Huh?" he said, mouth dropped open.

"Huh?" I imitated, dropping my mouth like I was an idiot or something. "Did you not hear me? I said... DO--YOU--HAVE--TO--FUCKING--WALK--UP--IN--FRONT--OF--SOMEONE--WHILE--THEY'RE--PLAYING?"

"No need to yell. Chill out. It was a mistake."

"A mistake my ass, motherfucker. You wanna start something with me?"

"I'm not starting anything."

"Bull-fucking-shit. You've been prancing around here thinking you're all cool because you can play three songs on heavy mode. Woooooooow, you're sooooo awesome. Give me a fucking break. You're not awesome and you don't even play those songs that well. Just 'cause you can play Holic doesn't make you a god. Holic doesn't have anything but beat in it and I guarantee even these middle school kids can play it with enough practice." My pulse was racing and I hopped off the machine, clenching my fists. I was oblivious to the world around me. It was just me and this kid.

"Juliana..." I heard Cameron say in a calm voice, trying to talk me down. He seemed far off, though. I was going to finish what I'd started.

"What? You don't have anything to say?" I demanded to know.

"I don't owe you an explanation for anything," he said, folding his arms.

In that moment, seeing him standing there in his preppy polo shirt and khaki shorts, mouth full of braces, I hated him. Utterly hated him. I didn't do what I should've done... I didn't back away, didn't ignore it. Didn't try sweet payback by walking in front of him while he was in the middle of a game. That would've actually probably pissed him off more than anything else. But I didn't do it. I just got this burst of energy and shoved him as hard as I could, which was pretty damn hard. He actually somewhat lost balance and stumbled a bit. Hell yeah. I just shoved Holic boy.

Of course, before he could shove me back, or I could shove him again, the manager was already over there and Cameron was holding me back. It was kind of weird because I hadn't really noticed anyone being there until that particular moment. I realized that Cameron was talking to me... begging is more like it.

"Juliana, stop, please stop. Don't do this, don't do this. It isn't worth it," he was saying.

Then I realized I was fighting him because I wanted to pounce on this kid. And then the manager, Dave, began helping him hold me back until somehow I was pushed outside of the building.

"Hey, calm down," Dave told me.

I blinked, noticing that I was outside. I was so confused at what was happening and my pulse was still racing.

"Breathe," he demanded. I did as told, glancing from him to Cameron, then back to him.

"Sorry," I muttered.

"It's okay," he told me. They finally let go of me. I wasn't going to pounce. For now anyway. "But you should go home and cool off. Only because I know you're upset.."

I started to interject, but he held up his hand to stop me.

"I know you didn't mean anything by it, and honestly, I would've kicked the crap out of him myself. I'm only asking you to leave 'cause I like you guys and I want you to hang around here. If this kid gets pissed, he could take it up with my boss or even the police and you could get in even more trouble. Ya know?"

I nodded. "Fine, it's cool. Whatever," I said.

He patted me on the shoulder. "Hey, don't be mad. You can come back tomorrow and everything's cool, okay?"

"Yeah, okay." I glanced at Cameron. "You can stay here with Bible-Thumper. I'll find a ride home."

"Hey hey, don't be that way," Cameron said. "I'll take you home."

"I don't feel like riding in a car with her."

"She has her own ride."

Boys can be so confusing. "Whatever you want to do," I muttered and he went back inside to talk to annoying girl.

"You are so fucking awesome," Dave admitted.

I gave him a questioning look.

"I've wanted to see someone kick that kid's ass since I first saw him in here. And you did a fine job of it, and if anyone mentions it to me, I saw nothing and he is known to lie for attention."

I smiled. "Thanks, Dave."

"No problem. But settle down a bit. Go home, get some rest, and come back tomorrow. Maybe everything'll be all chill tomorrow."

"I doubt it, but whatever, it's cool."

Just then, Cameron came back outside without Bible-Thumper and I noticed her inside flirting with Holic boy. Ahh, good... flirt with someone as annoying as yourself. "Ready?" he asked.

"As ready as I'll ever be," I replied, smiling, then waved goodbye to Dave and stalked off.

"You're so lucky that Dave didn't ban us from there," Cameron lectured on the way home.

"Dude, Dave loves us. He'd never ban us. Besides, we make him so much money 'cause we play that game so much."

"Yeah, but if it gets up to his boss that he's letting random girls pick fight with guys in the arcade, he could lose his job."

"Okay, Dad," I said, looking at Cameron and rolling my eyes.

"I'm sorry! I'm just having a Dad moment. What would we do on Friday nights if we didn't go to the arcade?"

"Um, go out and get drunk like normal 15 and 17 year-olds?"

"Hey.. I don't..."

"I'm *kidding* Cameron. Geeze. You need to stop hanging out with Bible-thumper. She's got you brainwashed."

"Her name is Claire-Elizabeth," he told me, pulling into my driveway.

I shook my head at him. "Excuse me, sir. See ya tomorrow." I pushed the door open and ran to my house without bothering to say anything else to Cameron. What a crappy, over-dramatic night. Couldn't I just keep the drama under control?

Shaun was actually home when I got in, lying on the couch watching the Spanish channel.

"Why do you watch that? You don't speak Spanish.." I asked him.

"You're home early."

"You only watch the Spanish channel when I get home early?"

He rolled his eyes. "I watch the Spanish channel because it helps me become cultured, unlike some of us."

"I think you watch it because you have a thing for Latinas." I moved his feet out of the way and sat down beside him.

"That probably has something to do with it," he replied, putting his feet on top of me. "So what's up? Why ya home so early?"

"What is this? Twenty questions?"

"You started it with the Spanish channel question."

I shook my head and leaned against the couch, staring at the ceiling for a moment. I was drained from so much DDR and not numb enough from the pain I felt inside. Didn't have enough exercise. Dammit. Since my mom's wreck, the only thing that kept me going was playing at the arcade everyday. That's how I managed to become so good in such a short period of time. Instead of doing something semi-normal, like cigarettes or drugs or self-injury, I played DDR. I could get so soaked into the game. So numb. And it was like nothing else mattered... it was like my mom wasn't in a coma, like she was back at home waiting for me to get in. It was like everything was going my way for once. And the harder I worked myself, the more tired I would get and I could sleep better at night. And that's always a blessing.

"What's wrong?" Shaun asked me.

I looked at him. Oops, guess I'd been staring at that ceiling for a long time. "Nothing."

"You're a bad liar."

"Whatever."

"What? You are."

I shrugged. "I kind of picked a fight tonight."

"Kind of?"

"Okay, so I picked a fight with this annoying kid at the arcade and ended up getting kicked out." I sighed, looking back at the ceiling. "And Cameron lectured me, so you can skip it."

"Glad Cameron's ready to take on the parenting role," he teased.

"Yeah, with the dumb Bible-thumper girl," I scowled.

"Hey, be nice."

"Okay, Cameron."

He playfully punched me. "My name is not Cameron, Ma'am."

"Glad you clarified that, Sir."

"But hey... the thing that'll piss her off the most is if you're nice to her. They like people they can convert to their religion. So just leave her alone and she'll leave you alone. And take it easy with picking the fights, okay?"

"Who's ready to take on the parenting role now?" I asked.

"Your mouth's going to get you in a lot of trouble one day, Missy."

"Ugh, I'm going to bed," I announced, pushing his feet off of me. I stretched out and he got up and tackled me in a hug.

"Hey, I know things are rough, but they'll get better. And fighting or being mouthy isn't going to help, okay?"

I rolled my eyes. "I was going to bed so I wouldn't have to listen to your lecturessssss," I whined.

"You can't escape them," he answered, smiling.

I smiled back, still in his hug. I knew Shaun was right, though. I mean, yes, he was right about not being able to escape his lectures, but that's not what I meant. He was right about fighting and being mouthy not helping. After all, it was Shaun's mom, too, that was lying in the hospital, motionless. And he even had to deal with putting up with me in the midst of my hormonal stage. What could be worse than that? I guess being the one in the hormonal stage? Who knows.

*****

The next morning, or afternoon rather, I woke to the sound of Shaun pounding on my door.

“What?” I moaned, rolling over and putting a pillow over my head to block the sunlight.

“Cameron’s on the phone.”

“Tell him I’m SLEEPING!” I groaned wondering why the hell my brother woke me up just to say someone was on the phone.

“He wants to know if you want to go play DDR.”

I pushed the pillow off my head and glanced at the clock. “It’s only noon! It’s too early to play!”

Shaun opened the door. “I’m not a messenger, tell him yourself,” he said and threw the phone at me.

I scowled, wanting to throw it back at him but he’d already disappeared. “Hello?” I groaned irritably into the phone. Why would someone call my house if my cell phone is off? Isn’t that a good enough indication that I don’t want to talk?

“Hey, Juliana. Sorry to wake you up...”

“Yeah, okay. Why do you want to play at noon? We always go at night...”

“Well, see... Claire-Elizabeth figured we should have band practice this evening then afterwards there’s a Christian rock band she wanted to see.”

“And? What’s that got to do with DDR?”

He paused. “I’m going to the concert with her.”

I felt a pang upon hearing this and I’m not sure if I was more angry or hurt. “So you’re ditching me to go with Bible-Thumper?”

“I’m not ditching you.”

“Whatever. We *always* go at night.”

“Exactly, and I want to do something different tonight.”

I breathed heavily, on the verge of tears. “Okay, fine. Go with her... have fun,” I told him. “Forget about DDR. Who cares that the tournament is next weekend?”

“Juliana, don’t be like that.”

“Like what?” I questioned, now wide awake and sitting up.

He racked his brain, trying to think of a nice way to describe my attitude. “Look, you can always go to the concert with us.”

“I don’t want to go to the fucking concert, and I don’t want to go do DDR with you. Just forget about it. I’ll see you at band practice.”

“Juliana...” he began, then stopped.

“What?” I said irritably.

“Nothing. I’ll see you at five,” he said.

“Okay, bye,” I responded, turned off the phone, then threw it. I lay back down and put the pillow back over my head. At this time the thoughts wouldn’t leave my head. Cameron and I were supposed to be best friends. We ALWAYS went to play on Saturday nights. It was like an obligation! And I knew I was being selfish but it didn’t matter. I’d never ditch my best friend for some guy... especially if he was as annoying as Bible-Thumper!

From those frustrated thoughts came thoughts of my mom. She’d been a college philosophy professor. The day my dad died she proclaimed her atheism and set out for her PhD. She basically raised Shaun and me as freethinkers... she let us know that she didn’t believe in a Christian god, but we were free to have whatever religion felt right. Of course, what felt right, for both of us, was a mix of atheism and agnosticism. I leaned more towards the former while my older brother preferred the latter. My mom had just decided she was going to write a book a week before her accident. A week before a semi plowed into her tiny car... A week before Shaun and I visited her battered body in ICU only to find out that she was in a coma.

I pushed myself out of bed. No, I couldn’t think about her... it would just make me cry and I didn’t need to do that.

“Shaun, will you take me to the arcade?” I asked, interrupting his television program.

He glanced up. “Cameron’s not going to pick you up?”

“Fuck Cameron,” I said.

“Language, Juliana.”

I glared – as if he ad any right to say anything about my choice of words.

“Fine, I’ll take you after my show is over,” he gave in.

“Thanks,” I grumbled, stumbling to the shower. I tried to think about different things... tried to focus on new songs to pass, on which song I’d want to ply in the tournament, on what homework I still hadn’t finished. Of course, everything always went back to Cameron, and then I got sad again. Damn boys. I hate them.

*****

After playing DDR, and pretty damn well at that, Shaun took me to band practice, never questioning what went on between Cameron and me. I was still in a crappy mood, only more hating guys than previously, and brought my portable cd player with me to practice. I conveniently brought a loud, screaming, fuck-everyone band, because that’s the mood I was in.

“Hey, Juliana!” Bible-Thumper yelped when I came inside.

I grunted in response and Cameron gave me a “be nice” look that I ignored.

“You really should come see this band with us tonight,” she continued, same chirpy voice, “they are sooooo awesome and uber-spiritual.” Ew, she just said uber... remind me to never use that word again... “I bet the Lord speaks to everyone tonight! Great things will happen.”

I almost gagged. “Sorry, I have prior obligations and I don’t back out on friends,” I told her glancing at Cameron who was tuning his guitar.

She almost continued talking but Dylan walked in and saved me. “Heya!” he said, smiling and twirling a drumstick. “Sorry I’m late.”

Dylan was always late... and apologized every time.

“Oh it’s okay!” Bible-Thumper howled. “But Dylan, there’s an awesome concert tonight that you should come to with Cameron, Jade, and me.”

He eyed me and I shook my head slightly, to which he looked back at her and said, “sorry chica... I’ve got plans. But maybe take a rain check?”

Dylan also always had plans – which revolved around drinking tequila and seeing how many phone numbers he could get by the end of the night.

“Sure, a rain check would be great!” she responded, clearly oblivious to what his plans were. “Since everyone’s here, let’s go ahead and pray.”

I rolled my eyes and rudely began to tune my bass. I could see her waiting for me to stop out of the corner of my eye, then she gave Cameron a pathetic look so he would make me stop.

“Hey... Juliana... we’re going to pray,” he told me.

“So go ahead,” I answered.

They didn’t, though, but were going to wait until I finished. I tuned longer than necessary, just to be a brat, then stopped, much to their liking. I took this time to take out my cd player and plug my ears with Slipknot rather than her voice. They’d already started preying... I mean praying... and I saw Dylan glance up at me and grin. When I started the music, Claire-Elizabeth stopped talking for a moment, Cameron glanced up, and Jade gave me an admonishing look. But she kept going, all the way to the end.

I suffered through practice with Claire-Elizabeth trying to tell me how to play as if she knew anything about the bass. It reminded me of how great the previous evening was with her having not been there. This was torture.

When I was finally freed from the only form of Hell that exists, I approached Dylan. “So what’s up with you tonight?”

He shrugged. “Drink a few, smoke a few. The usual. You going to DDR?”

“No, I’m being ditched for Claire-Elizabeth.”

Dylan sighed and looked towards them. “Well, hopefully it’s a phase he’ll grow out of.”

“Hopefully,” I muttered.

“Well, you’re free to come with me tonight, if ya want.”

I grinned. “It’d be fun.”

“Yeah. I’ll give you a ride and everything.”

“Kickass, I’ll call Shaun and let him know.” I stuffed my bass into its case and called my brother – leaving out the details of smoking and drinking.

“You’re going with Dylan?” Cameron asked when I got off the phone.

“You have good ears,” I pointed out.

“Why don’t you go with us to the concert? It’ll be fun, safer...”

“In case you’ve forgotten, I’m an atheist. I think I’m doing well enough to put up with the music we play without having to go out and listen to someone else play it.”

“I really wish you’d give God a chance.”

“I really wish you’d get off my back about it.”

“Why do you want to hang out with Dylan tonight?”

“Why do you want to hang out with Bible-Thumper ever?”

“You know how Dylan’s weekends are. He always comes to church hung over. He smokes all the time. Do you really want to become like that?”

“What the hell. You had no problem with his lifestyle until she came into the picture.”

“I didn’t have any problem until my best friend decided she wanted the same lifestyle.”

“Best friends don’t ditch each other,” I said, throwing the strap over my shoulder to leave.

“Juliana... don’t do this. I care about you. I don’t want you to drink away your sadness.”

I glared. What right did he have to tell me I was drinking away sadness. “Stay out of it, Cameron.” And then I walked off.

Dylan was waiting for me in his car, smoking a cigarette and talking to Jade when I got outside. I threw my bass in the back and slipped inside next to my friend.

“You guys sure you don’t want to come tonight?” Jade asked.

“Positive,” I murmured.

“What’s the deal with you and Claire-Elizabeth anyway?”

“Nothing. Can we go?” I asked Dylan.

“Sure thing. See ya, Jade. Stop by if you want after the concert.”

“Definitely. See you guys later. Be careful.”

Dylan turned up the radio and backed out of the church parking lot (that’s where we practiced – not the parking lot, but the church).

“So you’re having a party at your place?” I asked. Dylan was 18 and rented a one-bedroom duplex in a not so great part of town.

“I wouldn’t call it a party – just the same people coming over to drink. Probably be about five or six of us.”

I nodded wondering who all would be there. His best friend, Bryan, probably... and more than likely the rest would be girls. I liked Bryan okay... he was a lot like Dylan in so many ways. They both wore baggy jeans and listened to the same music. And were both super fun... liked to do crazy things. Bryan’s hair was sort of long, and his eyes deep dark brown (like my brother’s) while Dylan had short hair, usually wearing a cap slightly tilted to the side, and had ice blue eyes.

We pulled into his driveway and Bryan was outside smoking a cigarette while talking on the phone. As we got out of the care, he turned the phone off and yelled, "took ya fucking long enough."

Dylan flipped him off and they laughed like a bunch of idiots. I rolled my eyes.

"Hey Juliana," Bryan said upon noticing me and gave me a hug. Yay! How much cooler was this than playing DDR with backstabber Cameron?

"Who all is here?" Dylan asked.

"Travis and his girlfriend, and Colton."

"There's people already here?" I asked.

"Yeah, Bryan has a key and sometimes I leave it unlocked if I know someone's coming over."

I blinked.

"I don't have shit anyone wants anyway," he added.

"Oooookay..."

Bryan stepped out his cigarette then motioned for us to follow him inside. I'd only been to Dylan's house a couple of times before, but it looked exactly as I'd remembered. It wasn't dirty, but not exactly clean either. The sofa was big and comfy, definitely worn in. The kitchen was small, littered with dirty dishes and empty beer cans... and I was sure if I glanced in the fridge I'd find two-week-old leftover pizza.

One guy was sitting in the biggest recliner with a girl in his lap -- who I assumed to be Travis and his girlfriend. The other guy was sitting on the couch, flipping through channels and looked up when we came inside. Dylan threw his keys on the coffee table, grabbed a can of beer and plopped down next to the guy on the couch.

"Guys, this is Juliana... she's in the band with me." He looked at me, "That's Travis and Marissa and this is Colton who lives next door."

I nodded and shyly said hi.

"Sit," Dylan told me, scooting over so I could squeeze between he and Colton. "Bryan, make her a margarita, would ya?"

Bryan shot his best friend a look and in return, I put on a puppy face. "Okay," he gave in, "but only 'cause she's adorable and not an ass like you."

I grinned as Bryan made his way to the kitchen. I was as giddy as any sober-and-never-been-drunk fifteen year old could be. Yaay for margaritas!

Everyone made small talk with me as we drank. The usual: my school, age, favorite music. The margarita Bryan made me was spectacular and I think I'd downed the whole thing in a matter of two minutes. Have no fear, though, because soon he was making another.

I was feeling really goofy after about thirty minutes and wondered if anyone else was drunk like me. Obviously not since Dylan had barely finished his second beer and Marissa was sipping on her first margarita. This was when Bryan dug something out of his pocket and sat it on the table.

"Shouldn't we drink more first? Let it get later?" Dylan asked.

"Would you like a margarita?" he asked.

"Of course! And bring the bottle of tequila. We can take shots."

"I wanna nother margarita!" I shrieked.

Within a matter of seconds, the next margarita was shoved in my hands. I giddily drank up while the guys took shots (they wouldn't let me take any which was probably for the better). It was finally time to reveal what was in the bag.

Bryan sat down on the floor in front of the coffee table. He dumped everything out of the bag.

"Oooo! What's this?" I giggled.

"Hands off," Dylan said, smacking my hands away. "You'll see."

I pouted and watched Bryan pick through the stuff. Things were out of focus so I wasn't sure what was going on until he started rolling it up into a join.

"Oh! It's weed!" I yelped, only to be shushed by both Bryan and Dylan, both of whom were giggling like me.

"Have you ever smoked before?" Bryan asked.

"She's only fifteen," Dylan answered for me.

"Kids nowadays start young."

"I'm almost sixteen!" I said, delayed response.

"If you've never smoked before, this probably won't do anything for you."

It's not like it mattered... I was so drunk that if it had done anything to me, I wouldn't have noticed.

"Bryan, you're wrong for corrupting that kid," Travis said.

Bryan put the joint in his mouth, lit it, then sucked in. Dylan answered for him: "she's going to do it anyway and I'd rather her be with me than some fucker who's going to take advantage of her."

Bryan nodded in agreement, then passed the joint to me. I wasn't quite sure what to do so I just breathed in, swallowed, then blew out, but no smoke left my mouth. Everyone laughed.

"You have to inhale," Dylan instructed.

"I did?" At least, I thought I had.

"Suck in just like you're breathing."

I obeyed his orders and felt like I was coughing up a lung afterwards. He patted my back and took the joint from me.

I suddenly remembered "That 70s Show" and how they always got high. I scanned the group of people around the coffee table. Bryan was definitely Kelso, only much cooler. And Dylan would be Eric (wasn't that his name?) only not as innocent. Colton was the only one who could pass as Fez and that's only because he rarely talked. That left Travis as Hyde which made me giggle aloud. Donna was the cooler of the two girls, so I'd have to be her.

That's when I realized something. "Hey! The walls really are moving! Just like on the show!" I began laughing hysterically like it was the funniest thing in the world and didn't notice if anyone was laughing with me.

Finally Dylan said, "come on, Juliana, let's get some fresh air," then basically dragged me outside.

We walked (well, he did, and I stumbled) through the neighborhood and I rambled about different things, trying to be philosophical. Dylan just listened, arm looped through mine to make sure I didn't fall.

"What time is it anyway?" I asked.

He glanced at his watch. "Almost 12:15."

"Shit! I was supposed to be home at midnight!" I said, then giggled again.

"Come on. I'll take you home. Think Shaun'll be asleep?"

"No, but I can fake sober."

He gave me a doubtful look. "Oh, and hey, it's better if nobody knows about the weed, okay?"

"Sure thing," I answered. "I wanna try it again when I'm not drunk, is that okay?"

"As long as you keep it within the group of people who do it with you."

I nodded. "You're so awesome, Dylan. I love hanging out with you."

"Thanks," he said, ruffling my hair.

"Fuck Cameron."

We arrived back to the house and Dylan announced my departure.

"Awww, ya gotta go?" Bryan asked.

"Yup, sorry. But I'll hang out more," I promised, hugging him then everyone else and drunkenly waving goodbye. We stalked outside and to Dylan's car. Neither of us spoke for a while.. I was absorbed in the music and I'd like to hope that he was concentrating on driving.

When he pulled into my driveway, I said, "hey, thanks for letting me hang out with you tonight."

He smiled. "You can come over anytime. You have my number... just let me know and I'll pick ya up."

I smiled back and hugged him tightly. "See you tomorrow."

"Bye," he said when I opened the car door and nearly fell out.

It was a chore walking up the driveway to my front door. It was even harder trying to get the key in the lock (took me at least three tries). Finally, I successfully unlocked the door and pushed it open. I tried to act as sober as possible and it lasted for a good two seconds.

"Shaun! I'm home!" I squealed and slammed the door shut.

He was sitting on the couch looking at me and jumped at the loud noise. "So I noticed. You're late, you know that?"

"Just a teeny tiny bit late," I said, showing him with my fingers as I ran into the wall and attempted to sit my bass carefully on the loveseat.

He glared at me, but I didn't take the hint.

"Shaun, did anyone ever tell you how beautiful you are?" I asked, going towards him and squeezing his cheeks. Then I started singing.

"You're drunk," he stated.

"No I'm not!" I replied, happier than ever. "I'm just happy! And I love everyone! Except Cameron and Claire-Elizabeth. They're not beautiful."

"You're drunk and late and I'm not thrilled right now."

"Don't get mad, get glad!"

He just looked at me.

"Lighten up, big bro! It's Saturday night and everything's great! And I love you!"

I think he might have let out a slight grin to that, then said, "Juliana, just go to bed."

"But I don't wanna!"

"Well you need to before I get irritated and turn you from a happy drunk into a crying drunk."

"I'm not drunk," I insisted trying to keep a straight face and failing miserably.

"Come on," he said. He practically dragged me to my room then helped my shoes and socks off and tucked me into bed.

"Goodnight!"

"Night," he said back. I watched him turn off the light and leave. I tried to stay awake a little longer and gather my thoughts, but I passed out cold and didn't wake up until the next morning when I noticed Shaun was shaking me.

"Come on, get up," he was saying. "Church is in an hour. You gotta get ready. Cameron will be here soon."

"Fuck Cameron," I mumbled.

"Juliana... get up."

I groaned and pried my eyes open. There was my brother sitting on the side of my bed, hair all messed up. I smiled. "Wanna go to church with me?"

He shook his head. "No thanks. And hey, I know you're upset with Cameron and all, but try to stay out of trouble, okay? Sometimes you can get mouthy..."

"Oh god... not the lectures! Fine, I'm out of bed!"

He smiled. "Sometimes it's so easy."

I rolled my eyes. "My head hurts."

"That's because you drank too much last night. And you can't deny it."

Hmm... was it really that obvious? I decided to change the subject anyway. "I hope Bible-Thumper doesn't bug me today. She's always trying to convert me and even has Cameron trying, too! I might have to punch her in the face..."

"You know, you are the one going to her church..."

"Not 'cause I want to."

"Then don't go?"

"I have to."

"No you don't. But anyway, the point is that sometimes you have to respect stuff even if you don't agree with it... religion, laws, opinions. You're at their church and don't need to go if you're going to start arguments."

"Yeah, okay... I'm going to shower," I said, rolling out of bed and wishing my headache would go away.

I guess my brother is just a little psychic and maybe I should've listened to him. Or maybe I just thought that I'd prove him wrong. Either way, by the time I got to church my headache had faded (thanks to some Tylenol) and I was feeling more atheistic than ever.

Everyone greeted me as usual, except for Dylan who wasn't there yet. Obviously, he was the only one I wanted to see anyway, but I could wait.

Bible-thumper was rambling about how amazing the concert was and it was driving me crazy. "So many people were saved last night. God works in so many ways."

I kept my eye-rolling to a minimum.

"So what'd you do last night?"

"Oh, nothing much. Practiced for the tournament with some middle schoolers because a friend ditched me..."

"Juliana..." Cameron began.

Claire-Elizabeth interrupted, "Sometimes the Lord calls us to do things besides DDR. You know one of the ten commandments is to not put any gods before Him... that includes DDR."

Shaun would've been proud... I walked away instead of arguing. Besides, Dylan had arrived, apologizing like always, so I went to talk to him.

"Was your brother mad last night?" he asked.

"I don't think so... I was a little gone when I got home... I think I sang to him..."

He laughed. "You're one funny drunk. Did you have fun?"

"Hell yeah!"

"Hey, careful, we're in the house of the Lord. You better apologize."

This time I rolled my eyes.

"Let's get warmed up before everyone gets here," Cameron said, clapping his hands like we were puppies or something. We hadn't spoken hardly at all on the way to church -- just the usual hi how are you -- then I stared out of the window watching the trees. He'd definitely gotten the hint that I was pissed off at him... finally.

We practiced for a little while then had a little break before the service began. I sensed Jade and Cameron talking about me, so I went with Dylan outside while he smoked a cigarette. We didn't talk much, he just reminded me of a few crazy things I did while drunk and told me what went on after I left (the girl threw up so she and Travis went home and the rest of them just pondered the meaning of life). Church was about to start when he stomped out his cigarette, so we went back inside.

See, we played at a really big church... so big that they had an early service, then Sunday school, then another service. We always played all of the songs in the first and usually played a few in the second. Most days Dylan and I went to McDonald's during Sunday school to talk about what things annoyed us about the service. This proved to be a great stress reliever for the two of us so we did it as often as possible, even if we didn't have to stay for the final service.

I don't know what came over me this particular day. The service pissed me off double because it was talking about all other religious being wrong and how it's our duty as Christians to set them straight. So don't ask me why I agreed when Claire-Elizabeth asked me to go with her to Sunday school. I guess I wanted to prove Shaun that I could do whatever and not get in trouble. Even Dylan gave me a doubtful look when I followed her down the hallway.

And I guess it wasn't so bad. The people were nice and idolized me for being such a great bass player. The teacher basically reiterated what the preacher had said and I resorted to doodling on a handout she'd given us. Of course, I've had a lot of practice with listening and doodling at the same time (thanks to boring classes where I didn't have friends to copy notes or homework from) so I half-listened to what was being said getting more pissed by the moment. She was talking about different religions and how stupid they were but still had faith. And it was annoying me greatly. But I was dealing okay... until Claire-Elizabeth raised her hand.

"What about people who don't believe in God? How do we get them to know Him? How do we convince them that there's more to life than the sin they're living in?"

"What about you just leave everyone alone and let them believe what they want to believe?" Oops... did I really say that?

Everyone was shocked, but Claire-Elizabeth came back anyway. "Because we care about you and God is the light! You'll be so much happier once you find him."

"I'm plenty happy right now..."

"No you're not."

"... and God isn't the fucking light."

"God loves you, Juliana."

"God only loves himself and that's why if you don't worship Him you go to Hell." By this time we were both standing up and everyone was watching and probably talking, too, but neither of us noticed. We didn't even breathe for the argument.

"God created you to fellowship..."

"There is no fucking God!" I yelled.

"Yes there is and I know him and love him!"

"You're living in a fairytale."

"God gives me hope, someday I'll be in Heaven..."

"There is no Heaven."

"... and you'll be suffering..."

"Yeah? If God loves us so much why would he make us suffer?..."

"It's his will."

"And why would he fucking make a good man like my father die, huh?..."

"We can never know his reasons."

"My dad was out doing God's work... he loved God and loved everyone and was a great man. And God pushed him off of a roof, paralyzed him, then fucking killed him."

"God didn't do that."

"So you know what? Fuck God. Fuck him and fuck Christianity and fuck you and everyone else because there is no God and if there is, he's an asshole and I fucking hate him..." As I was saying that, I was also being dragged out of the room and I looked at everyone's shocked faces. At the time I had no idea who was dragging me out, but when I was finally in the hallway I recognized him as the youth director.

"You need to leave," he ordered.

"Don't worry," I replied then pushed past him. I walked first, but my mind was racing and I felt the tears coming so I began to run. I ran down the stairs, through another hallway, out the doors, down the sidewalk a bit and finally collapsed in the grass. I buried my head in my hands and cried. Cried because my dad had passed away and I never really knew him. Because my mom was wasting away in a hospital bed and the doctors didn't expect her to ever wake up. Because my best friend was brainwashed by stupid religion and hanging out with someone I couldn't tolerate. Because everything hurt so much and it wouldn't go away and I just wanted things to get back to normal.

"Hey, what's wrong?" It was Dylan... I could recognize his voice from anywhere... always carefree, positive, and comforting.

"Nothing," I gasped through tears. He was kneeling beside me and stayed like that for a moment, then plopped down next to me and threw his arms around my body. We didn't speak for a long time, he just held me close, stroking my hair.

I don't know how long I cried, but eventually I lifted my head to wipe the tears away.

"You okay?" he whispered, still holding me.

I shook my head, hiccupping, and relayed the story to him exactly as it'd happened.

All he said was, "come on, let's go to McDonald's." And it made me smile. Because Dylan was so completely capable of either bitching me out or telling me they deserved it, but he remained neutral and knew food would make me feel better than almost anything else.

"So you think about your dad a lot?" Dylan asked after we received our food and sat down in the corner of the restaurant.

"Yeah. I mean, he's a lot of the reason that I am who I am today. And I don't mean physically... I mean with the atheism and stuff."

"How so?"

"He always did missionary work and stuff. Always helped people. And he was helping build a house and fell off the roof... he damaged his spine so badly that he wasn't able to move at all, and eventually just died. And that's why my mom is an atheist. And me, too, I guess."

"Do you remember him at all?"

I shrugged. "I remember visiting him in the nursing home before he died. I remember telling him stories and watching as he tried not to cry." My throat was swelling and I myself was about to cry.

Dylan patted me on the arm and caressed it gently. "It really sucks how things happen sometimes."

I nodded. "I always wonder how I'd be today if my dad was still around."

There was silence for a little while as I finished my sausage biscuit.

"Hey Dylan?"

"Hmmm?"

"I want to smoke with you this afternoon."

"If you promise me one thing."

"Okay."

"You won't turn to drugs every time you feel bad."

The way he looked at me made my stomach church and I don't know why. Rarely was Dylan serious, but at that moment he was -- more so than I'd ever seen him.

"No problem. I promise."

After eating, we walked back to his car. He went to retrieve my bass and equipment for me while I sat in the car jamming to satanic music and wondering what it'd be like to be high.

"Hey, Juliana..." Dylan said, coming back empty-handed. "Cameron or Jade must've gotten your bass and stuff."

I scowled. "Fuck Cameron."

Dylan grinned and scooted in next to me. "Ah well, at least we never have to come back to this place again."

"Good," I murmured, assuming that Dylan had decided to quit the band since I was gone.

I watched trees passing by, enjoying the music and the moment. I might've just gone crazy, but I didn't have to see Claire-Elizabeth again. And I was probably no longer a member of the band, but I didn't like it that much anyway and maybe Dylan and I could get our own group of people together to make a better band. And I was going to get high. So even though things were crappy, they really weren't all so bad.

Bryan was dead asleep on the couch when we arrived.

"He's got the right idea," I whispered.

Dylan nodded, taking off his jacket and throwing it and the keys on the kitchen table. "Let's watch a movie before we smoke. Let Bryan wake up so he can join us. Is that okay?"

"Sure," I answered, smiling giddily.

I have no idea what we watched but within a matter of minutes I'd fallen asleep right there in Dylan's bed and didn't wake up until about three. I could hear he and Bryan talking and laughing in the living room so I stumbled out of bed and stretched out then greeted them.

"Well hello, Sleepyhead," Bryan said.

"Look who's talking... you were so dead asleep when we got here." I squeezed in-between them.

"So you're going to smoke with us, huh?"

I nodded, "if that's okay with you, sir."

"Sure, but you probably won’t get high."

"I'll just smoke until I am high, then."

He shrugged, then continued watching tv.

"... so are we going to do it?" I asked.

"Oh, right..." Bryan said, grinning to Dylan. Dylan passed him the bag and Bryan sorted through the stuff as he had the previous night, then stuffed it in a pipe.

"Hey, I don't know how to smoke out of that," I whined.

"You don't know how to smoke a joint either, so what difference does it make?" Dylan asked.

Good point... "True," I said.

Bryan handed me the pipe. "Remember: inhale... just like you're breathing."

I nodded and put the pipe to my mouth. Bryan lit it and I inhaled then coughed and handed the pipe to him, still coughing. They laughed at me, each took a hit, I was still coughing, so they took another then passed it to me. I did better the second time, finally getting the hang of it. We kept passing it around and I idly remembered That 70s Show again and let out a slight giggle. The guys were telling a story about sometime they were stoned and I just listened, distracted by the tv every so often until everything got distorted all of a sudden.

"Whoa..." I said, interrupting the story.

"What?" Dylan asked, handing the pipe to Bryan.

"Everything is... weird."

"Oh," Bryan said, "you're just stoned."

"I wanna listen to music," I said calmly, then closed my eyes and reopened them, hoping things would be in focus. Nope.

Dylan pushed himself up and turned on a cd. Bryan continued telling the story. I stared at the curtains and listened to the music wondering if Bryan realized I didn't hear a word of what he was saying. Dylan went to the kitchen and peered into the fridge. I observed.

"Dude, I'm so fucked up," I said.

"There's no food... let's order a pizza," Dylan said.

Bryan continued with the story.

"I want stuffed crust pepperoni," I said.

"Oooo... stuffed crust pepperoni with extra cheese," Bryan said, distracted from the story.

"Yes!" Dylan shrieked and dialed the number.

Bryan began telling a different story. Someone knocked on the door -- it was Colton. He sat on the recliner and watched, laughing.

"Your friend is toasted," he told Dylan.

Dylan came over to me and looked in my eyes. "Are you okay?"

I giggled. "Yes, just feel confused."

He smiled and ruffled my hair. Everything felt like it was going in slow motion. I leaned my head back and felt like the music was singing to me. It was the only thing I could hear. The pizza guy came and Colton had to answer because Bryan was telling a story and Dylan's head was in my lap and I was petting his hair.

"I'm thirsty," I said, randomly, and leaned my head back again.

Dylan got up to get some pizza. Bryan kept telling stories. Colton brought me a coke and a couple of slices of pizza. That was the best pizza ever.

Things were jumbled and confused for a long time. We were all lying around (by this time Colton had decided to join our stoned party) being lazy and eating every so often. I felt way drunk and it was quite nice, actually.

It was getting dark when there was another knock at the door.

"Who is it?" Dylan yelled.

"Jade," was the reply.

He shot up and cleaned up the weed then opened the door. I was so out of it and the guys were just talking.

"Hey, what's up?" Dylan asked Jade.

"Not much... I was going to see if Juliana was here."

"Yeah, she wasn't feeling well and took some Benadryl so she's a little out of it."

How will I be able to hide the fact that I'm stoned from him! I wondered.

"Her bro's worried. He's been trying to call all day but her phone is off."

Dylan glanced in my direction.

"He called Cam and Cam called me and we figured she was here."

"Yeah... right day today. But she's fine."

"I'll take her home if ya want."

He looked at me again. I lazily shook my head. "Nah it's cool, I can take her. But you can hang out if ya want."

"No, I'm on my way to the church and just wanted to check in. Will you tell her Shaun's looking for her?"

"Sure thing, Man."

"Thanks, see ya."

"Later."

Phew. That was a close one.

"I should take you home," Dylan said plopping down next to me. "If you stay here too much longer, Shaun'll find out and come get you himself."

Yes, and Dylan taking me home sounds much more pleasant. I had a better chance at not getting caught if Shaun didn't go to Dylan's house.

"You're right, but I really don't wanna go home," I pouted.

We stared at the tv for a few minutes until he patted my leg and stood up. "Come on, kiddo."

I gave him a puppy face and he held out a hand to help me up. I reluctantly took it and Dylan told the guys we were leaving. I hugged them both, waved goodbye, and followed my friend to his car.

Cue that philosophical conversation.

"Do you think there could be a god?" Dylan asked me.

I shrugged. "I think there's a possibility, but not a Christian God... because there's so much bad stuff in the world."

He nodded. "I want to believe in a god but every time I turn on the news, every time I drive downtown, every time I think about my past, I think it can't be possible. All of the poverty, all of the hatred. Why would such a loving god create so much evil?"

"I figure that it's impossible for God to be all-good, all-knowing, and all-powerful. Maybe he just can't change the bad stuff or he doesn't know about it. And if he knows and can change it but doesn't, then he's a jerk and I don't want to go to Heaven with Him anyway."

"I sometimes wonder how someone can be faithful through all the shit they go through. Sometimes I idolize them -- not people like Claire-Elizabeth who don't have a clue what it's like to live on the streets -- but like a homeless man who plays his guitar and praises god when the churches won't even open their doors to him, or someone who's been in a terrible accident and on their deathbed talking about hog good God's been to them..."

"It's the only hope they have left. I know I'd feel better about my parents if I believed in God, but in my heart I know it's all false. I need someone to lean on, to cry to, to have faith in that He'll take care of everything, but I've been let down so much... first with my dad, now my mom... how can I trust Him to make everything all right?"

We stopped at a red-light and Dylan looked at me. "Juliana, I mean this, okay? If you ever nee anything -- a ride, a friend, something to punch -- just call me. I'll be here for you, I'll let you cry on my shoulder, I'll listen to you." Okay, so we went from philosophical to sentimental. Nice. "I won't let you down, I promise. And I worry about you, not because I think you're stupid or irresponsible, but because I know how you feel." He began driving again and kept talking. "I know what it's like to hurt so much that you think anything to free you from the pain is worth it. But it's not. And I know drugs and alcohol seem great -- I love both -- but if you use it as your outlet it becomes an addiction. I know -- I've been there, done that. Not with drugs or alcohol, but other stuff. And I've seen friends fuck up everything with a stupid addiction. I don't want you to end up like that. Just talk to me or hang out or find something better. Please..."

By this time I was looking at him intently. I didn't know he'd had his own addiction, didn't know half of what he'd gone through in his life. But I wanted to cry because he was being all sweet and girly and I never really saw that side of him and I was still a little stoned.

"I won't let you down," I told him. "But we're going to have to keep these sentimental conversations to a minimum because you're going to make me cry."

He laughed. "If I think you're going overboard with the drugs I'm going to tell you, straight up. I'm not going to talk about it behind your back and I'm not going to ignore it. So we won't have the sentimental talk again -- if we ever have this conversation about drugs I'll probably be bitching and parental."

"Ugh, just like Shaun."

"Don't give me a reason to be like that."

We looked at each other and smiled. "Don't worry, one Shaun is enough."

Speaking of Shaun, we had just pulled into my driveway and I could see his silhouette from the car. Blah, time for lectures again.

"Good luck with your bro. Call me whenever you want to hang out."

"Okies. See ya," I said and hugged him tightly.

I wasn't so much high when I arrived at my front door. I was still a little confused but at least most things were in-focus once again. I braced myself for Shaun's lectures and wished I could ignore him like I had Bryan earlier in the day. Oh well, here goes nothing.

I opened the door to find him watching tv. My bass was on the loveseat so obviously Cameron or Jade had been by to return it. Shaun turned towards me and shot me a look that twisted my stomach into knots.

"Have a seat," he ordered calmly.

I closed the door behind me and hoped the benadryl excuse would work.

"Why didn't you call me?" was his first question after I nervously slid onto the couch next to him.

"Because I didn't think about it."

"What did you and Dylan do?"

"Hung out with friends, watched movies, nothing spectacular."

"Cameron brought your bass by," he said nodding towards my instrument, "and told me what happened."

"Fuck Cameron. He wasn't there and it's none of his business."

"Cameron cares about you, Juliana. And it might not be his business but he came over to check on you because he was worried."

"He wasn't too worried whenever he was ditching me for Bible-Thumper," I said, getting irritated so my voice was rising.

"He also doesn't care for Dylan's lifestyle..."

I stood up, successfully enraged. "It's my fucking life and he needs to stay out of it! He doesn't have the right to make you dislike Dylan. Ugh! I HATE him!"

"I don't dislike Dylan, Juliana. Calm down."

"I'm sick of him."

"I think you need to slow down on the attitude," he began.

"God, you're just like him!" I shouted to which he stood up, towering over me.

"What is your deal?" he asked. "First you get kicked out of the arcade for picking a fight, you stumbled in late last night drunk off your ass, got kicked out of church today then disappeared for hours, no phone call, nothing. I think I'm trying to handle all of this fairly well considering how pissed off I am right now."

"I wish everyone would fucking get off my back about it. Don't you have other things to worry about?" I thought weed was supposed to make you calm, but I think it did the opposite for me. I was feeling bitchier than normal. "What about Mom? Can't you worry about her? Or your girlfriend... or your school? And leave me the fuck alone? Damn..."

"Stop cussing, Juliana," he told me, just letting me have my rampage.

"Oh, now you're worried about my language?" I shrieked.

He put his hands on my shoulders. "Would you chill out?"

"Fuck you," I yelled pushing his hands away. "I'm so sick of being treated like a kid. Can't I just drink like normal people? Can't I cuss like normal people? Nothing else is fucking normal."

I think I successfully pushed his buttons enough to feel his wrath. He leaned in towards me, looking straight into my eyes. "You're only fifteen years old... drinking is far from legal and I'm willing to bed Dylan drank before he drove you home. And I'm really fed up with your mouthyness. Didn't I tell you about respect? I'm sorry there are things you don't want to do, sometimes you have to. And if you don't stop with this attitude, I'm tempted to take you over my knee..."

"You wouldn't do that," I mumbled, rolling my eyes.

"...My mom is in the hospital, too. My dad is dead, too. Yeah, it hurts, I know. But that doesn't give either of us the right to jump all over everyone else when they do something we don't like. And you don't think I'll spank you? Test me, Juliana. Just test me," he warned.

"Why does everyone blame the way I'm acting on my parents? I am FINE and you can just stay the fuck out of it!" Well, he told me to test him...

He instantly grabbed my upper arm and dragged me to the couch and pushed me over his lap. It all happened so quickly, I didn't even have time to fight. Unfortunately for me, I was wearing the khakis I'd worn to church and they were uber-thin, so the second he started spanking, I felt it loud and clear.

"Ow!" I howled, reaching back to keep the smacks from coming. "Stop!"

"I warned you," he replied and moved my hand away, "but you didn't listen and if this is the only thing to get through to you, I'm going to do it."

I kicked and squirmed, still too bitchy to even think about apologizing. But hell, Shaun definitely knew how to lay it down on me and my ass was killing me!

"Shaun! Stoppp! I'm too old for this!"

"After all the attitude you've pulled with me, all of the yelling and fighting you've done, all of the worry you put me through by not calling or coming in late, you expect me to stop? Just like that?" he asked, obviously not stopping. "I tried to talk to you, I tried to be reasonable, but obviously that didn't work. So guess what? We're doing this the hard way."

I wiggled around, trying to get off of his lap, trying to free my restrained hands -- anything! It so totally and completely didn't work.

"This isn't fair!" I shouted. "It's all fucking Cameron's fault and I hate him!"

"What did I tell you about your language?" he asked.

I ignored the question, more concerned and embarrassed that I was being spanked like a kid. "Would you stop already?"

"I asked you a question."

"And I think it's a stupid that you don't want me to cuss because I'm fifteen and it's not like you've never done it!"

He paused the spanking. "Are you still being mouthy?" he asked rhetorically.

And of course, I answered: "obviously so."

He lifted me up, squeezing my left arm very tightly while taking his belt off.

"Wait... w-what are you doing?"

"Since that wasn't working, maybe this will." He slid the belt through the loops, folded it over, then leaned me over the couch.

"Wait, isn't this child abuse?" I asked.

He swung the belt through the air and it landed on my bottom with a loud cracking noise. I yelped and tried to stand back up or move my hand back, but he was holding onto me too tightly. "No, it's called a punishment and hopefully it'll help you listen better."

He gave me another smack and I suddenly wished that I was back over his knee getting spanked with only his hand again. "Owww... that really hurts," I gasped. He responded with a few more blows and I felt myself becoming more and more remorseful. "Please... stop," I begged after I'd been hit about fifteen times.

"And why should I stop?" he asked.

"Because I'm too old to be spanked," I began, receiving an extra-hard blow, "and I'm sorry!" I finally spat out.

"Sorry for what?"

"For being mouthy!"

I guess this wasn't good enough for him because he kept spanking and spanking for what felt like hours!

"For being mouthy and worrying you and cussing. I'm sorry for everything!" I cried, then broke into tears. I don't think I was sobbing to get him to stop, or because the spanking hurt so much. I was crying because everything else hurt -- I was upset with my best friend and hurt because I felt betrayed... and pissed off at myself for getting kicked out of the arcade or arguing with Claire-Elizabeth when I knew it wouldn't do any good. I was sad because I missed my parents and smoking or drinking with Dylan filled that emptiness and it scared me. And Shaun was going through the same thing as me and hadn't fucked everything up like I had and here he was, finally fed up enough to use physical punishment as a last resort to get me to listen, but I wasn't so sure I was ready to listen. But when he's holding the belt and it's my ass on the line, I guess I have to.

He stopped the spanking. "Are you ready to talk to me now?" he asked.

"Yes," I choked out.

He let go of my body then helped me up. I wiped my tears away and he sat down on the couch and pulled me down next to him. I sniffled and lay my head on his shoulder, felling really crappy.

"Now, I don't mind if you hang out with Dylan," he told me. "But you have to call me. Cameron came by here and scared me half to death, talking about you running out and he didn't know where you were and how he didn't want you to become an alcoholic."

"I didn't even drink today," I sniffled, "and I already promised Dylan that I wouldn't use drinking as an outlet."

Shaun put his arm around me. "Good, I'm glad to hear that." He paused. "Now what happened at church today?"

I groaned. That was one of the last things I wanted to talk about, but I figured Cameron had made it out to be worse than it was, so I might as well try to defend myself.

"Everyone was irritating me by talking about how all other religious are wrong then stupid Bible-Thumper made a snide comment about atheists in reference to me and I, um, sort of got upset."

"Why'd you even go to Sunday School with her? You knew it'd upset you. Were you looking for a fight?"

My first thought was to say no, but instead of answering on impulse, like usual, I gave it some thought. I had known that she would upset me. And I could've just gone with Dylan to McDonald's like always. So maybe I was trying to cause trouble. "I'm only admitting this 'cause you're my brother -- but yeah, I guess I did want to fight. I'm just so sick of Claire-Elizabeth always trying to convert me and being so ignorant and everyone not respecting other religious -- and to top it off, she's taking Cameron away from me. And I wanted to give her a piece of my mind but didn't think I'd really do it."

"With regards to respecting other religious, do you think you do that whenever you're talking bad about Christianity, or when you're fighting Claire-Elizabeth like you did today?"

"But that's different. Atheists are a minority and we don't take pleasure in trying to get the whole world to disbelieve in God."

He sighed. "Sometimes, Kid Sis, we bend the rules so it's okay for us to do something that we don't like others doing. And in this case, I think you're doing just that."

"But..." I began.

He cut me off. "You know you shouldn't have argued with her -- we'd just talked about it this morning. Christians don't generally go to church to be criticized for their beliefs, even if Claire-Elizabeth seems like she does. What I'm saying is that even if they're being disrespectful to other religions, there's better ways to let them know rather than getting in someone's face and yelling and cussing. Next time try talking rationally... or avoiding the situation entirely. Okay?"

I guess I was argued out because I just nodded.

He patted my back and stretched out. "You hungry?"

"No, we ate pizza."

"Well I'm starving. How 'bout some ice cream?"

Even a normal unstoned person wouldn't turn down that offer, but I guess I just felt bad and my ass hurt. "No thanks. I think I'm going to read for a little while."

Shaun and I both got up. "Well, okay. But if you need anything, let me know, okay?"

"'Kay," I answered, accepting his hug before stalking off to my room. I searched through the stack of books on my dresser to find something interesting enough to kill an hour or two. And as if I hadn't had enough controversy for one day, I pulled out the one that was a debate between an atheist and a Christian. I'd read it once before, it was where I got most of my ideas from, but I needed to brush up on the arguments. I underlined everything important and took some notes which is way more than anything I'd ever do for school. When I finished, it was 11:09 and I was ready for a debate. That got me thinking of if they have atheist groups and I promised myself that I'd look it up on the internet as I drifted to sleep.

Story: Cynthia's Mexican Adventure

Misc story.  Cynthia takes a trip without her brother's permission.  Upon arrival to the foreign land, she plans to enjoy a game of Dance Fever, but then gets accused of breaking it.  The police are unhappy and agree that instead of going to jail, she should be spanked and turned over to her brother (who spanks her more).  This is a weird story... that's your forewarning.

Cynthia's Mexican Adventure
by Breanna Carter

Once upon a time there was a girl named Cynthia. She lived in the land of Hippopotamatude, a country close to Mexico. She lived with her mother and father, the king and queen of their country. Because her parents were always so busy, Cynthia was often left in the care of her older brother, Brandon.

Cynthia was somewhere between a woman and a child at the age of 13. She often strayed off alone, but Brandon made sure she didn’t go too far.

One day, Cynthia met a donkey who told her about the exotic and neat things that were in Mexico. He told her about their great technology including a game that must have been sent from the gods called Dance Fever. Cynthia was so intrigued by what the donkey told her that she knew she must go right away.

However, one thing stood in the way: Brandon.

“No, you can’t go to Mexico,” said he.

“But why? It’s much more advanced and would be a great learning experience!”

“I said no,” he huffed and walked off.

Cynthia folded her arms and pouted for two and a half minutes, then realized that she didn’t need her brother’s permission to go. The donkey could take her!

So she skipped out of the castle and found the donkey. “Will you take me to Mexico?” she asked, putting on her most adorable face and batting her eyelashes.

The donkey was taken aback by her forwardness, but could not decline her request. “Of course, my lady,” he said in a thick Mexican accent.

The ecstatic girl hopped on his back. “Thank you sooooo much, Mr…. um, Mr…”

“Burro. Señor Burro is my name.”

“Ah, okay. Thank you Mr. Señor Burro.”

So Señor Burro hiked through the tall mountains, weaved through the roads, and finally, three hours later, arrived at the gates of Mexico.

“Well, here we are,” said Señor Burro.

The little girl jumped off the donkey clapping her hands in excitement. “Very awesome!” she exclaimed, hugging Señor Burro before departing.

“Be careful,” he warned her, “and don’t drink the water!”

Cynthia waved goodbye and walked through the gates. She immediately noticed the contrast between this land and hers. First of all, they all spoke Spanish! How would she ever understand them? Luckily, she knew some from her older brother, who’d traveled to Mexico plenty of times. There were also a lot of people walking around, and even more donkeys. Police were scattered throughout the streets, often whistling, for what reason, Cynthia did not know.

She wiped the sweat from her brow and took a few steps forward. What should she do now? She sighed and headed in the direction of all the people. Everyone gave her a weird look, but she didn’t notice. She was too busy gazing at the unfamiliar land.

Cynthia walked and walked. She ambled down the tiny alleyways and hiked up the mountains. Finally, she saw what she had been waiting for: Dance Fever. She pushed the glass door open and hopped inside. There was a big line to the game, but she didn’t mind. She stood at the end and waited patiently, watching everyone else play.

Finally, it came to be her turn. She inserted some change in the machine, but it wouldn’t take it. Glaring, she kept inserting different coins. It still would not take her money. Cynthia became very frustrated, yelling obscenities at the machine and eventually kicking it and very hard at that. Now, while the Mexicans were advanced people, the machine was still unlike those that we have today. It could not withstand such abuse and as Cynthia kicked, Dance Fever collapsed and was no longer usable. A gasp fell across the room. The young girl looked back to see ghastly expressions and mouths hanging open.

“¡Ella rompolo!” one of them yelled, then all of a sudden there was a big uproar. People were screaming and cussing, then began throwing stuff at her until finally a policeman came in.

“¿Qué pasa aquí?” he asked.

Everyone began shouting again until he finally put pieces of the store together, figuring out what had happened. He shook his head at the girl then seized her, much to the approval of everyone.

When outside, he stopped Cynthia. “¿De dónde eres, chichita?” he asked.

She bit her lower lip, thinking that he was asking her where she was from, but unsure. Taking a chance, she answered, “Hippopotamatude.”

He nodded then kept leading her away from the now-destroyed game. “¿Y sabes qué es difícil para una niña de Hippopatmatude a sacar de cárcel?”

She gave him a blank look, not understanding a word. Finally, after trying to figure it out and not succeeding, she said, “no entiendo.”

The officer nodded, taking her to the Mexican jail. When they arrived, the policemen talked amongst themselves in fast Spanish. Cynthia just looked at the ground nervously, wondering what was going to happen to her.

“¡Chichita!” one yelled, catching her attention, then said something to which she responded with a confused. “¿No hablas español?” he asked.

She shook her head.

“Entiendes ‘cárcel’?”

She racked her brain to figure out what it meant, then realized it was the Spanish word for “jail!” She gulped and nodded.

“No cárcel para ti, pero nosotros vamos a darte nalgadas, ¿entiendes?”

She understood the part about no jail, but that’s about it.

Instead of letting her answer, the office continued. “Después, me voy a llevarte a tu casa en Hippopotamatude.”

She nodded, still uncertain of what was going on. The first officer, from the arcade, sat down on a chair in the middle of the room. He looked up at her, motioning for her to come towards him and saying, “ven.”

She took a step forward. He grabbed her hand and pulled her closer, then finally over his lap. She wasn’t expecting that and let out a slight yelp. In turn, he swatted her backside a few times. She kicked and squirmed, begging for him to stop and not even realizing he couldn’t understand.

When she thought she’d had enough, she reached her hand back to block.

“¡Quita la mano!” the officer shouted.

The scared, crying little girl moved her hand as ordered, wishing the spanking would stop already. “Please!” she begged. “I’m sorry!” she assured him, then reached her hand back again.

He paused long enough to say, “quita la mano,” again, then grabbed her hands, restraining them so he could finish her punishment.

When he decided that he’d given Cynthia enough, he stood the poor girl up. A second officer then repeated the procedure, then a third, then the final. By the end, Cynthia was a sobbing wreck. Her eyes were red and puffy and her bottom throbbing. She rubbed it gently until an officer dragged her outside. He found his donkey, sat the girl on the back, then hopped on himself. Cynthia barely endured the three hour long donkey-ride on her sore backside. However, she was more worried about what Brandon would do when he found out.

The two arrived at the gates to Cynthia’s castle. The guards allowed them through and one summonsed Brandon to come outside.

Cynthia’s older brother was livid when he saw her with the Mexican police officer and donkey. The two men chatted in Spanish about the incident and punishment, then the officer explained how fortunate Cynthia was to not be in jail. Brandon listened carefully and nodded every so often. Then he lifted his siter from the back of the donkey, swatted her bottom three times and ordered her to apologize. She did as told, not wanting her angry brother to have to repeat himself. The officer accepted her apology then let the donkey lead him away.

Brandon grabbed his little sister’s upper arm with his left hand and spanked her as she stood there for about a minute, while lecturing. “How dare you defy me and go to Mexico after I told you no!” he yelled. “It is dangerous, especially for a young girl. And to top it off, you made trouble with the police! I am NOT happy with you.”

She wanted to point out that it was obvious he wasn’t happy, but was crying too much. Her bottom was still hurting from the previous spankings and Brandon definitely wasn’t helping!

He finally stopped. “Pick a switch for me then go to your room. I’ll take care of it shortly,” he ordered.

A trembling Cynthia wiped the tears out of her eyes and shuffled to the forest behind her castle. She was still crying when she found a switch her brother would approve of. Carefully, she cut the limb and weakly ambled back home, one hand trying to rub the sting out as the other held the next implement of her punishment.

Brandon was in her room a few minutes after she arrived. “Skirt up and panties down,” he told her, taking the switch.

Defeated and not up for fighting, Cynthia did as told. He then leaned his little sister over the bed. He spanked her with the switch, not saying a word. He spanked for what felt like hours but was really only about ten minutes. Cynthia was apologizing and crying, pleading for him to stop.

“Are you ever going to defy me?” he asked.

“Nooooo!” she promised.

He continued the spanking for a few more swats, then stopped, staring at her poor battered backside. He shook his head. “Don’t you EVER do something like this again,” he told her, then threw the switch down and left.

Cynthia cried into her hands for a while then changed into a nightgown and fell asleep in a matter of seconds.

And though Cynthia was in pain, they still lived happily ever after.

Story: Peer Pressure

Misc Story.  After convincing her older brother to grant her permission to go to a concert, Jen's curiosity takes her somewhere it shouldn't have.  Now she's stuck going home, under the influence, and not quite sure how she's going to get it past Steven.

Peer Pressure
by Breanna Carter

Peer pressure is a bitch, especially when the peers you're dealing with are in high school and you're a measly thirteen year old. I wanted to be as cool as my friend's older brother and his friends. And whatever they did, I followed. No matter what it was.

It started out as an innocent concert.

"I promise I'll be back home by midnight," I pleaded to my older brother who hated the idea of me hanging out with seventeen year olds.

"Midnight? Don't push it, Kid Sis."

"But Steven!" I pouted. "It doesn't look cool to have to be home too early."

"Um, I'm sorry? You're lucky that you're even able to go. You know I'm not a big fan of those guys."

I growled. "Okay, 11:30?"

"More like 10:30."

"Steven! The concert doesn't even start til eight!"

"That James kid is going to bring you home again?"

I nodded.

"Fine, I want you home at eleven. And call me if you're going to be late, do you understand?"

I jumped up and down. "Yes, I'll call! Thank you thank you thank you!" I yelped.

"And you're only going to the concert?"

"Yes."

"Stay inside, okay? That's not the greatest neighborhood."

"I know, I know," I groaned, then pranced to my room. Did I mention that I so totally have a huge crush on James, the guy who was going to take me home? Yes. Super crush. The joys of being a teenager.

That's why I took a shower and spent all that time washing, drying, and straightening my hair. That's why I dressed in my cutest pair of baggy black jeans and wore a tight shirt with rips and safety pins. And put on loads of black eye-liner and makeup. And even painted my nails. Because I had to look super cute for James.

He honked the horn in my driveway about seven, as the sun was going down. I waved a quick goodbye to Steven, who was getting himself ready for a night out with some friends or something, and hopped towards the van. James had recently inherited his mom's piece of shit vehicle... a seven passenger green minivan that was almost as old as me. But it didn't matter because we needed to get to concerts, and we had a whole route of people to pick up.

"Heya kid, how goes it?" he asked when I hopped in the back seat behind him. My friend, Paige, and her older brother were already stuffed in.

"Going great!" I said, tucking a lock of my hair behind my ear. One of those body language things that shows you have a crush.

James smiled that adorable smile and then everyone continued their conversation. We had two more stops, to both of the other friends, Shane and Jared. And then it was off to the concert.

See, the reason that Steven didn't really like the idea of me going to a concert was because of the fact that it was in sort of a rough neighborhood. Of course it was a downtown venue, and apparently in the middle of the homeless and prostitute community. So random people went around asking everyone for money. And there was another man who walked around with a bucket asking for soda cans. But inside it wasn't a big deal. There was lots of security to make sure that no one kidnapped anyone (at least that's what I told him).

I also told him that when I went to a concert, I stuck around inside for the whole thing. Which was another lie. Well, I mean, I was inside for some of the concert, but when there's not a band playing, EVERYONE stands outside to cool off and smoke cigarettes. So what's the point of being inside by myself? And the reason I say that is because once we got there, we didn't make our way inside. Instead we stood around, talking to random groups of people, introducing ourselves to those we didn't know.

I kept glancing at my watch because I knew the show would start soon, but no one else seemed in much of a hurry. Even when the guitars started playing inside.

I whispered to Paige, "are we going inside?"

"Ooh! I didn't tell you..." she whispered back. "They're waiting on a friend." She glanced around to make sure no one was listening then leaned in. "Shane's friend is going to bring him some pot. And Alex and James want to try. Alex said I could try, too, as long as I didn't tell our parents."

I blinked. "Are you serious?"

She nodded. "But you can't tell, okay? Promise?"

"Of course. Do I get to have some, too?"

She giggled. "If you want any. Have you ever tried it before?"

I shook my head. "Have you?"

She shook her head back at me.

"At least neither of us will be alone in this."

It was really weird, because at that time in my life, drugs were only something I heard about in health class. You know, how they damage your brain and fuck you up. How you act stupid. I mean, geeze, I was still at the age to where I'd never gotten drunk before. So the world of drugs was foreign and forbidden, something I yearned for. And some little part of me knew that if I did this with James, I'd be accepted by him. Because of course he would like someone daring enough to try marijuana, right?

I was beginning to feel nervous. My heart racing and palms sweaty. I was on high alert, just waiting for my brother to drive by and see that we were standing outside. Or waiting for cops to come by and know that we were planning on getting high. But nothing ever happened... no Steven, no police. Thank God.

Shane's friend finally showed up and passed him a small ziplock bag in exchange for ten dollars. They talked for a minute and by this time my nerves were killing me. I was ready to get it over with, be cool, and go to the concert. I was so busy concentrating on chewing on my fingernail that I almost didn't realize it when his friend left and he looked back at Paige and me and said, "you guys coming?"

I looked at her and she looked back and we nodded then followed them to the van. "Where are we going?" I asked.

"Shane's dad has a farm out in B.F.E. and we're going to drive out there for a few," James said. "No worries, though. I'll have you home on time so your bro doesn't have a cow."

I smiled.

"And not a word of this to anyone," Alex, Paige's older brother, warned me.

"Not a word," I assured him.

I wondered how many of them had actually gotten high before, and pondered that on the drive to Shane's farm. It was pretty far out, about thirty minutes or so. I had plenty of time to think about it. I was also freaking out because James was going seventy when the speed limit was fifty-five, but didn't say anything. They seemed to know what they were doing, and all I had to do was deny everything... pretend like I didn't know what was going on, that I had no control over it.

"Did Jared not want to come along?" I asked Paige when I realized that we were one person short of our normal group of six.

She shrugged. "I guess not."

Shane pulled the bag out of his pocket and found a magazine then poured the weed out onto it. I watched as he picked some stuff out, then threw it out of the window and stuff. I was wondering what in the world he was doing throwing shit out of the window, seeing as he paid $10 for such a tiny bag, but didn't ask.

James finally pulled down a dirt road and parked the van, turning the car on idle so we could listen to music. My heart thumped wildly inside my chest. Steven would so kill me if he found out.

Shane stuffed the marijuana into the pipe and handed it to James. He lit up and sucked in, then held his breath before passing the pipe back to Shane. I observed what each person did, and after Alex took his whiff, it was my turn. Paige was the only other person who hadn't smoked yet and I kind of wished that she'd go before me, so I wouldn't feel too stupid if I coughed or something, but that would mess up our chain and I didn't want to seem like a wuss.

I carefully took the pipe from Alex. I glanced at it for a moment, then took the lighter in my other hand. "Have you ever smoked before?" he asked me.

I shook my head.

"Just suck a little in, then breathe in, then hold it, and blow out," he instructed.

I nodded and put the pipe to my mouth, then lifted the lighter, turning it towards the pipe and burning my finger instead of actually burning the weed.

"Shit!" I yelped and dropped the lighter.

Everyone thought that was mildly amusing. I glared at them, thought they couldn't see me for the darkness, then I realized that everyone was watching me.

I nervously picked the lighter back up and tried again, then whined because I'm an idiot and couldn't figure out how to do it. Sensing my pain, Alex took the lighter from me and lit the pipe himself. I tried to do as he instructed and sucked in, but I guess I sucked in too much and then tried to swallow the smoke but then took a sharp breath and began coughing like crazy. I was choking on all of the smoke and I noted that the guys were smiling when I handed the pipe to my friend.

"It's okay to cough. That'll make sure you feel the high."

I don't know who said that, but I nodded in response.

Paige didn't even attempt to light the pipe herself, but let her older brother do it for her. And her situation was similar to mine. So now they had two coughing thirteen year olds instead of one.

We countinued the pipe around the circle a couple of more times until I'd coughed so much and felt the burning in my throat long enough to call it quits. Well, Alex was actually the one to do it, because after his third hit, he decided that we needed to be finished. Shane, having smoked quite a lot before, wasn't high yet, so he took a few more hits, but they didn't dare pass anymore to Paige or me.

I wasn't quite sure what it was supposed to do to me. I mean, sure, I'd heard before... you know, you get the munchies and you giggle a lot. But that doesn't mean you actually know anything about it.

"I'm hungry," I said unexpectantly.

"Munchies," James noted.

"I'm hungry, too," Paige added.

"What are ya craving?"

I don't remember who asked that either, because that's when the actual high hit me. I began to feel dizzy and disoriented. I all of a sudden had a higher connection with the music and everything seemed to be moving in slow motion, like those flip books that have pictures on different pages, and when you flip through it, it looks like the picture is moving.

Holyshit, I'm fucked up, was all that I could think.

I turned my head to look at my friend, then turned to look back at Alex. They were all talking, but I couldn't understand what they were talking about. James started up the van to drive off. I couldn't imagine trying to drive in such a condition.

"Jen? You okay?" Paige asked.

My mouth was dropped and I looked at her, nodded, then started giggling.

Hell fucking yes, I'm so completely fucked up.

James and Shane rolled down their windows, then Alex pushed open the windows in the back. Paige's was finally kicking in so she was feeling all f-ed up like me, and it was actually quite amusing. We were so completely in our own little world.

When we pulled up to the gas station, I knew that I was in no condition to attempt to walk inside. So I opted for everyone else except James to go in. Because I have a crush on James, and I was so ready to make out with that sexy boy. And for some reason, they actually left James and me in the car alone. Score.

I was too fucked up to actually carry on a conversation, though. So I just kind of stared at him and listened to the music.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

"Uh huh, just really... high."

He smiled. "You'll be okay. Are you okay to go home? You only have about twenty minutes left."

Only twenty minutes? Not fair!

"I could always call Steven and ask to stay out longer."

Steven must have a brotherly intuition or something, because as soon as I said that my phone began vibrating in my pocket and I took it out to see that he was calling.

"That's crazy," I said aloud, then opened the phone, mouthing to James that it was my brother calling.

"Where are you?" was the first question he asked.

"We stopped by Circle K to get some drinks. Everyone was thirsty."

"Get home, now," he ordered.

Shit, I muttered to myself. "Okay, I'll be home soon."

He hung up the phone and I gulped.

"What was that about?"

"He wants me to come on home now. What am I going to do? I'm so messed up right now... Shit."

"Shane has some eyedrops... and use some of Paige's perfume. You'll be fine. Just tell him you're tired and worn out from all the moshing. Besides, I'm sure Steven's gotten stoned before, too. So if he finds out, he shouldn't be too mad. But don't take any chances."

I nodded and sat in an uncomfortable silence until everyone came back with arms full of food and drinks.

"What's up?" Shane asked when he plopped down in the front seat, throwing food at his friend. "Everyone's so solemn."

James pointed at me. "Her bro called and wants her home, so she's freaking. I told her you had some drops."

Shane nodded and looked back. "Yeah, kiddo. Don't worry. You'll be fine."

It wasn't my bloodshot eyes or smell that made me think Steven would know what was up. It was the fact that I was totally fucked up and unsure of what exactly was going on. I couldn't comprehend the conversations that my friends were having, much less actually try to carry on a conversation with them. So how was I going to convince Steven that I was fine?

It didn't matter. In no time the drops were applied and perfume successfully sprayed on. Everyone pumped me up and made me repeat my story to them several times before dropping me off in front of my house. The porch light was on and I could see Steven's figure in the living room.

"Good luck, kid," Alex said and patted me on the back, and then I hugged everyone in the van and stumbled out. I walked as straight as possible to my house. Steven was seated on the couch, watching tv, but immediately stood up and to meet me at the doorway.

I closed the door behind me and listened as the van pulled off. I tried to clear my head enough to tell myself to climb the stairs to my room. That was my goal. Just get up the stairs.

"Where have you been?" Steven asked.

Though he wasn't much taller than me, he certainly seemed to be towering over me at this time, and he didn't appear to be too happy. "At the concert."

"Oh? That's funny, because I went by there about an hour ago and saw Jared, but no sign of the rest of you."

"I must've been in the bathroom."

"Funny, because the van wasn't there either."

"Oh, they left for a little while."

"Did they? Where'd they go?"

I hesitated. "To pick up a friend."

He so knew I was lying.

He shook his head. "I'm going to ask you again, Jennifer. Where have you been."

I gulped. If I'd been in the right state of mind, I could've conjured up a good excuse. But no such luck. "Look, can we talk about it tomorrow. I'm really tired and --"

He cut me off. "Have you been smoking?"

I blinked. "...No."

He lifted my chin and stared me in the eyes. I knew that they were supposed to not be bloodshot, but it didn't matter. They were so dazed that I knew I was caught.

He kept staring and it was making me even more nervous. His brown eyes can be so piercing sometimes, and I felt bad for lying, and shit... I was in so much trouble.

"Okay, okay, okay," I howled, turning away. "We went out driving and I smoked a little, but only a little and I'm sorry I won't do it again."

He dropped his hands and shook his head. "Go to your room." And that's all he said.

I'd reached my goal. I climbed the stairs pathetically and pushed my door open, immediately falling onto my bed. I stared at the ceiling for a few minutes, wondering if he was coming up or if I was to go to sleep or what. Everything was still sort of spinning and I realized that I was still high.

What have I gotten myself into.

After about thirty minutes of steady staring at the ceiling and trying to get it to stop moving, I heard him climbing the stairs. I bit my lower lip nervously and almost jumped out of the bed whenever he opened the door. Not because he did it violently or anything, but because I was paranoid as hell.

"Jennifer," he began, "we're going to have a talk about this in the morning. So get some sleep. I'm very upset with you."

All I could do was nod. I didn't have any excuses, nothing to say to him. He caught me in the middle of a lie. Dammit.

I drifted off not too long after that and awoke the next morning with makeup smeared and my hair matted to my face. I'd slept damn good for knowing the amount of trouble I'd be in. But as I woke, the pit of guilt began forming in my stomach. It took a moment to remember the previous night's events, but once the images formed in my mind, they didn't stop. The night played in my head like a movie... the concert, the weed, the disconnected feeling, and finally being caught. Steven was already upset enough with me, but while high, at least it didn't bother me as much.

I pushed myself out of bed and stumbled down the stairs. My brother was sitting on the floor with the computer in front of him, parts spread out and trying to piece them back together. It was his current project: fixing our P.O.S. since we couldn't afford to buy a new one.

I cleared my throat so he knew I was standing there.

He didn't look up. "I see you finally decided to get up," he said.

I nodded. "Looks like you're having fun with the computer."

"Loads," he answered sarcastically. I watched as he took some things out, then put some back in, and finally sat down the screwdriver and looked up at me. "So why don't you tell me about your night last night."

I gulped. "Oh, it was nothing too spectacular."

He stood up and moved the computer out of the middle of the floor. "So what'd you do, Jen? I was under the impression that you were just going to go to the concert then come home, but apparently that's not what happened. So I'd like to know exactly what went on."

I winced. "I thought we were going to go to the concert, too. But then Shane had to meet up with a friend and next thing I knew, he was smoking and then you called and..."

He stood up straight and looked me dead in the eyes. "You know I don't buy a word of what you're saying."

"Y-you don't?"

He shook his head, now folding his arms. "I think that you knew they were going to smoke pot and you went with them with the intentions of doing it yourself. Is that right?"

I shook my head. "N-no... I didn't know..."

He walked closer to me. "No? You had no idea, huh?"

I shook my head again, backing away as he edged in closer, obviously very upset.

"Then how come Jared was at the concert? Doesn't James always pick him up, too?"

"Erm, well... last night, h-he didn't.." I stammered. He was right in my face by this time.

"You know, if you're going to lie, you should go over it with your friends first," he told me, then shook his head and grabbed my wrist, pulling me over towards the couch with him.

"W-what do you mean?" I asked, attempting to free myself from the grip he had on me.

"I mean that your story doesn't match up with everyone else's, and you should check on that before you decide to make something up."

"I'm not lying, though!" I persisted.

"You should quit while you're ahead," he told me, sitting on the couch and dragging me towards him.

"What are you doing?" I asked suddenly when he jerked me over his lap.

He tugged down my pj pants and panties. "What do you think I'm doing?"

I bit my lower lip and began squirming, trying to roll off of his lap. "Steven, no wait... you can't do this to me..."

He tightened his grip on me and slapped my bare bottom really hard. "I can't? Looks to me like I am.." he responded, slapping me a few more time.

"Ooowww! Steven! Nooo! Stopp!" I begged, still kicking and squirming.

"Not stopping," he answered.

I moved my hands back to block the smacks, but he was three steps ahead of me and grabbed them before I had the chance.

"Don't even think about it," he told me.

"But Steven!" I wailed.

He ignored me and spanked me even harder, if at all possible. By this time I was writing around like a snake, trying to get him to stop spanking, even if only for a second, so the pain wouldn't be as intense. My bottom was aching and throbbing and I thought I was going to die.

"Puhleezeee stopppp."

"What did you do last night?" he asked a final time.

"I... oww... was going to... ahhh, I can't talk while you're spanking!"

"Well, we're going to be here a while then," he responded, still spanking.

"Nooooo," I howled, burying my face at this time and trying to get him to stop by attempting to free myself. No avail. Finally, realizing that I'd lost, I stopped trying to get free and admitted my crime: "We went to the concert and they told me they were going to smoke weed so I went with them because I wanted to, too." It all came out in one anguished, quick breath.

"I see," he said and smacked me hard. "So you smoked weed, huh?"

"Yes," I choked.

He swatted me again. "And was it fun?"

"Nooooo."

He lifted me up, my pj pants and panties still at my knees, then dragged me to the corner, planting my nose in it. "Don't move a muscle," he ordered, then disappeared.

I stood there, staring at the wall and sniffling, wanting to rub my battered backside, but not having the guts. It was throbbing and I was sure that it was probably a very deep shade of red by this time.

I didn't get too much of a break before I felt myself being dragged back to the couch. This time, Steven held a wooden hairbrush in his hand and I almost threw a fit...

"Noooo Steven!! Not the hairbrush... pleaseeeeee not the hairbrush!" I wailed.

He used his strength to push me back over his lap, then wallopped me a good one. "Not the hairbrush?" he asked, whacking me again. "You mean to tell me that you went out and directly disobeyed my orders last night, then smoked marijuana, and you think you don't deserve the hairbrush?"

That's a rhetorical question.. but I answered anyway, "I don't deserve it!"

"Oh, that's where you're wrong, little sister. You deserve this and you know it." With that he proceeded to whack me a few more time, until I reached my hands back and tried to block (again).

"Please, Steven," I said when I reached back.

He paused for a moment. "Move your hands."

"Pleaseee stopppp!"

He whacked my thigh. "Move your HANDS!" he repeated, a little more sternly this time.

I winced from the sting and moved them away, holding them out in front of me and nearly screaming everytime he beat me with that damn hairbrush. "S-stevennnn," I pleaded, kicking my legs and letting a few tears slip down my cheeks. I was still squirming and trying to get away, still to no avail. And he was still spanking me with all his might. "I'm sorry!!" I promised.

"I'm glad to hear that."

"Pleaseee no moreee," I begged, then reached back again.

This time he didn't stop spanking, just grabbed my wrist to keep my hand steady, then popped it really good. So now, not only was my bottom throbbing, but my hand hurt, too! "Do NOT reach back again, Young Lady, do you hear me?"

"Yess, owwww!! I won't!"

I put my hands in front of me and buried my face into them. That was about the point in which I began crying like crazy... because I was hurting so much and because Steven was so disappointed in me. I felt terrible and it's not like the drugs were worth it anyway.

"I don't ever want you to do drugs again, got it?"

"I won'tttttttttt."

"They're dangerous and stupid. And next time you tell me you're going somewhere, that better be where you go unless you call and tell me otherwise, understand?"

"Yessssssss!"

"And you'll not be going out for a while either, until I know that I can trust you again."

I nodded in agreement, still bawling, as he landed the final flurry of smacks and sat the brush down. I lay there and cried for a little while and felt him breathing and rubbing my back. We stayed there for a few minutes until he finally stood me back up and helped me in the corner. He kissed the top of my head and patted me on the bottom.

"Stay there until I tell you otherwise, okay? And then we're going to talk.."

As if I needed to talk after he spanked me! That was enough of a wake up call to know that I'd never EVER do drugs again.

Story: Learning a Lesson

Misc Story.  Amber's older brother offered to take her in rather than have her parents send her off to a boot camp.  He gets more than he bargained for when one night she comes home late, driving her friend's car, and not exactly sober.  She soon learns that his way of handling things is a lot more painful than her parents'!

Learning a Lesson
by Breanna Carter

My brother offered to let me stay with him when my parents claimed they had enough and threatened to put me through a boot camp. Like one of those on the talk shows where these big scary guys yell at the kids and they're all tough as nails in the beginning, but by the end they're babies and do whatever it is anyone wants them to. So I said, fine, whatever. Send your problem-child fourteen year old daughter to boot camp. See if I care. So instead Phillip offered to let them have a break for a little while. I don't know why.. it's not like he could handle me any better than they.

Well, actually, I enjoyed being with Phillip because I really wasn't that bad of a kid, just sometimes wanted to stay out a little late, and besides, my parents bugged me anyway. Who actually isn't bothered by their parents when they're fourteen? Living with my brother was like Heaven.

Most of the time.

The first time I screwed up was when Ashley asked me to go out to this party with her. No big deal. A few seniors from school wasnted to get wasted at this guy's house because his parents were out of town for the weekend. I was down with that. Phillip was working til after midnight so he wouldn't mind if I got home about the same time as he. It'd be no problem.

"So what are you doing tonight?" he asked me, buttoning up his work shirt.

I shrugged. "Meh, I don't know. Might have a girl's night with Ashley and friends. Who knows. Bowling, a pizza, maybe a chick-flick."

He nodded. "Well, okay, that's cool then. Just be home by one, okay?"

"Of course," I answered. Okay, so maybe I told just a little white lie. The night would definitely not be a girl's night... and no bowling or pizza or chick-flicks. But I was definitely going with Ashley. Does that count as some truth?

She picked me up that evening wearing a slutty halter top and some super-tight jeans. That's Ashley for you. I, on the other hand, was in a baggy t-shirt and jeans. That's me for you.

"Girl, you are so not wearing that to this party."

"What?" I said. "It's comfortable."

She shook her head at me. "Whatever. You are so hott and your boobs are great. Why don't you show them off?"

I digested that. "You know, I bet that'd piss my parents off even more..."

"We're so going shopping!" she announced and sped towards the mall. Yes, I ended up using dear brother's mastercard (that I'd conveniently found in the dryer when I was taking some pants out... he wouldn't mind) to purchase a top that showed more skin than it covered and a cute blue jean skirt. It was all Ashley's choosings, though. She wouldn't even let me go into the stores I normall shop. Who cares? As long as I can show off my gorgeous figure and annoy the hell out of my parents (her words, of course).

We went to the party after that. I was doing okay, had vowed to myself not to drink anything that anyone gave me... unless it was a beer or something light that could help me maintain control. The music was loud and pulsating, all these guys kept commenting on my new attire. I was offered a couple of beers, which was really gross but who can turn down a free beer? And then I was dancing with some guys and just hanging out.

After an hour or two of that, I decided that I'd decline all other drinks... unless it was a margarita or some sort of frozen girly drink, which I was offered a few minutes after I'd made that pact with myself. By then the room was beginning to feel hot and I could tell Ashley was drunk. So I couldn't get drunk, because I'd need to drive later. Unless it was a mixed drink. Those won't get you too drunk.

In case you haven't noticed, by the end of the night, I was taking straight shots. I kept promising myself not to do these various things, but I'm horrible at keeping promises. Besides, it's not a big deal, so long as someone could walk straight enough to drive us home.

That someone just happened to be me, a couple of hours later when we stumbled down the front stairs.

"Ashley, how the hell are we going to get home?"

"Let's just walk in a straight line and see whose is straighter."

"How are we going to know whose is straighter?" I questioned but she was already walking down that straight line, that looked more curvy than anything else.

"Your turn!" she yelped.

I took a deep breath in, contained my giggles, and managed to walk a somewhat straighter path than she.

"There we go. You drive."

I started to mention that I didn't have a license, but at that moment, I realized that if Ashley attempted to drive, we'd end up in the ditch. "Okay, but sober up on the way to my house, because you still have to drive home."

She nodded.

I grabbed the keys and braced myself for the drive. "Focus, just focus," I muttered to myself on the way to the car. We both hopped in and I jammed the keys in the ignition. Ashley was being all crazy and ditzy and babbling about something, but I kept telling myself to focus. How the hell was she going to drive home? Maybe Phillip would be cool if she just crashed at our place for the night...

I pulled into the parking lot of the apartment complex and immediately noticed that Phillip was standing outside on the phone and smoking a cigarette. When he took a glance at me, he hastily said something to the person on the other line then hung it up, rushing towards me.

"Shit," I said, looking at the clock that read 3:51am. "I'm fucking late.."

I pushed open the door where Phillip was standing outside, arms flailing. "Where the hell have you been, Amber? It's nearly..." he paused to sniff the air and I noticed my mouth had been hanging open trying to make my excuse, so I closed it in hopes that he hadn't smelt anything. Too late. "Have you been drinking and why the hell are you driving Ashley's car?"

"I haven't been drinking," I slurred, "but Ashley has, so I figured..."

He was shaking his head, and took this time to interrupt me. "Don't you EVER lie to me, Young Lady. Get in that house right now," he ordered, pointing towards the door.

If I'd had more alcohol in my system, I'd probably have been defiant. But I didn't have it in me. It was late and my brother was truly pissed, and I could actually understand why. Fourteen years old, drinking, driving, no license. Damn. Besides, I was too tired to argue my case. It hadn't been too long since Phillip was a teenager, so hopefully he knew better than my parents why I did what I did. It's just a teenager thing. Right?

"But what about Ashley?" I asked.

"I'll deal with her. You go inside and to bed."

I didn't like this who demanding older brother thing. He was usually super nice and funny and I dunno... everyone just adored Phillip because he's that type of person. Seeing him pissed off was not fun.

I stumbled inside, holding onto the walls to guide me to my room. Hell... I was a lot more drunk than I'd imagined. I could barely walk straight and I was all of a sudden finding it harder to see. I kept pep-talking myself. Just a few more feet to my room, a couple of more steps to the bed... then I changed into my pjs, plopped down and closed my eyes, finding the world spinning around me. Is this really how fast the world is spinning? I was starting to feel sick. I opened my eyes, adjusting them to look at one point on the wall, then closed them slowly, finding everything spinning again. I began to whine because I hate the feeling of having everything moving and me not moving with it.

I don't know how I finally managed to get to sleep, but the next morning I woke up with this tremendous headache and my stomach was killing me. I blinked, trying to recall the night before. The fact that I got drunk was obvious, since I was so sick. Ech, and my brother was probably going to be pissed and I'd be yelled at forever. Not with this headache, though. So I rolled over and tried to go back to sleep.

My attempts to sleep were unsuccessful when Phillip came barging in. "Amber, it's after noon, so get up. I made lunch."

I groaned but pushed myself out of bed anyway. "I don't think I'm hungry," I groaned.

"I'd say not from as hungover as you probably are. But get up anyway."

I nodded and rolled out of bed, following him to the dining area where we sat down across from each other. I noticed that he probably hadn't expected me to eat anyway, judging from the fact that he'd only made two Hot Pockets, and that's definitely not enough to feed us both.

"What happened with Ashley?" I asked, taking a sip of water.

"She crashed on the couch then went home this morning."

I nodded.

The room was quiet for a minute.

"So yeah... I guess you're pretty pissed at me.." I began, hating the silence that engulfed us at this moment.

"Oh, I'd say I'm a little more than pissed."

I cringed. "Can I at least explain myself?"

"You can try," he said, taking a bite of his food, then adding, "but I doubt it'll help."

"I just got a little stupid last night and Ashley wasn't in any condition to drive."

"And you were?"

"Well what else was I going to do? Just stay at the party all night?"

"You'd stayed there long enough... You were supposed to be home at what time? One o'clock. What time did you get here? Four. I think that one o'clock is a pretty lenient curfew for a fourteen year old, but I can guarantee it that you'll be getting home much earlier than that from now on, if I even let you out.."

"Wait a second... that's not fair.." I began.

He raised his hand to cut me off. "You can tell me what's not fair when you pace around this living room for three hours waiting for your younger sister to come home, not knowing if she's been in a wreck or what, calling everyone around that you know, and she won't answer her damn cell phone. And then when she finally gets there, she's driving a car, no license, and drunk off her ass. You go through that then tell me what's fair."

I blinked. Totally wasn't expecting that.

"You aren't even old enough to drive, much less drink, Amber. Are you trying to get yourself killed? Trying to get arrested? Because that's a damn good way to accomplish it."

He pushed his plate away from him, now too aggravated to even eat.

"And what was this outfit you were wearing last night and where'd you find the money to buy it?" he asked.

Yikes. I'd almost forgotten about that. "Uhm, well... I sorta got it for the party... and sorta borrowed the money."

He raised his eyebrows. "Sorta borrowed money? Elaborate."

"Erm... I found your credit card and sorta used it," I mumbled, turning away and covering my mouth slightly like maybe that'd help me get in less trouble.

He leaned in closer to me. "Used my credit card?" he asked.

I nodded slightly.

He shook his head at me and stood up, then grabbed my upper arm, then dragged me towards the couch.

"Wait... what are you doing?"

"This conversation is over. You're getting a spanking."

"A what?!" That was the most surprised look I'd given all day.

"You heard me." He sat on the couch then pulled me towards him.

"Wait wait wait... you can't do that..."

"I can, and I am." He gave me a rough tug and my struggles were futile. Before I knew it I was over his lap, facing the carpet.

"Wait, Phillip. Please. Let's be rational, please? I'm fourteen. That's too old to be spanked..."

"I'm through being rational with you, Amber. I give you some leeway, you take it for all it's worth. How can I trust you to stay out late if you come in like you did last night? And if your parents aren't going to put a stop to it, I am."

"Please Phillip. Don't spank me. I mean, you can't.."

"Watch me, Little Sister," he said, then tugged my pj pants and panties all the way down to my knees.

I began to squirm, blushing profusely with embarrassment. "I'll be good, I'll be good..." I promised.

"I'm sure you will, especially after I get finished with you."

"No no, please don't do this.." Wow, I felt soooo young and vulnerable in that position.

He ignored the rest of my pleas and began whacking my exposed bottom with an open palm. I yelped from the beginning, squirming more and still begging. That must have been one amusing sight. Fourteen years old and finally getting taught a lesson. I'm sure so many guys would've liked to see that.

And damn, Phillip spanked me hard. Looking at him, you wouldn't think he'd have it in him. He's not too tall, maybe about 5'9 or so, only a few inches taller than me. He's not all big and muscular either. But he sure can spank. Before no time I was howling in pain and promising to do anything if he'd just stop. And that didn't work.

"I'm so so so sorry!!" I bawled.

"I'm sure you are. And I'm sure you wouldn't be if you were still in bed sleeping right now."

"I would be, I really would!" I promised, reaching back to block the smacks.

"Move your hand, Amber Michelle."

"But it hurts!" I wailed.

He slapped my thigh really hard. "I *said* 'Move your hands.'"

I yelped and moved it away. "Pleaseeeee Phillip. Please please please no more."

"I'm far from being finished," he assured me. He didn't care that it was the first spanking I'd gotten in the last ten years... the first bare-bottom spanking ever... he was definitely going to make sure I didn't forget it.

He continued spanking, using his left hand to keep me from reaching back while he pounded away with his right. He sometimes even smacked my sit spots and thighs. I was so relieved when he stopped that I nearly rolled off of his lap.

"Oh, we're not finished," he told me.

"What..?"

He lifted me up and brought me to the edge of the couch. "HEY! Move your hands away.."

I noticed that I'd been rubbing my bottom to get the sting out, but I quickly stopped so I wouldn't get spanked too much more.

"Over," he ordered, pointing to the couch.

"Phillip... please..."

"OVER, and don't make me repeat myself."

I whined, but leaned over the edge of the couch anyway, burying my face in my hands and letting the tears collect. I listened as he unbuckled his belt and the leather slid through the loops. I cried harder. I'd never been spanked with a belt before... but living in the south, it's not like I'd never known anyone who was. And I'd never heard anything appealing about being spanked with it... it was definitely not the position I wanted to be in at this moment, leaned over the sofa, bottom exposed, already in pain from the hangover and now in pain from the spanking. No no... I definitely didn't want to be spanked with the belt.

But, obviously, the punishment was working because I didn't move, didn't object, just whined. Somewhere in the back of my mind I knew that I deserved this. That didn't really help the situation... didn't help that I was in a shitload of pain... didn't help that I was about to receive more of my punishment. It just helped me learn how to accept it, sorta. Though I would have gladly not taken it.

"Amber, there's a few reasons you're getting this spanking, care to name them?" he asked, lashing me across the sitspots with the belt.

"Ooowwwwww, because I drank and drove and came home past curfew and used your credit card."

He whapped me again. "Sounds about right," he answered, slapping me again. "I want you to listen to me, okay?"

"Okayyyy," I whined, crying into my hands.

He cracked the belt down again then began speaking. "I care about you and your well-being," he told me, punctuating that statement with a hard smack from the belt. "I understand what being a teenager is about. I can deal with the drinking, okay? But if you're going to drink, you need to be responsible, and no driving or getting in the car with a drunk driver, understand?" he asked. Cue that smack.

"Yessss, I understand."

"I don't appreciate you stealing money from me, nor do I like that you drove Ashley's car, much less while you were drunk." He delivered another blow.

"I knowwwwwww, I'm sorry."

"And I will not tolerate you coming home so late in the night, okay?"

"Okay, okayyyyy."

He stopped talking for a few minutes and held me down while delivering a final flurry of smacks to my bottom with the belt. Some of them caught me on the sit spots, only a couple on the thighs. I was howling in pain, though, and crying like you wouldn't believe. Crying so hard that I could barely breathe, and in so much pain that I almost didn't realize he'd finished. I only knew because he started rubbing my back and helped me up out of my position in order to hug me. I felt like I was in one of those movies, or something, where they said "this hurts me more than it hurts you" and how you never believe them. That's how I felt. But I guess there's always that feeling at the end where you know that they didn't want to beat the hell out of you, they just did it for the fact that they figure if they didn't you'd probably end up doing something stupid again. Which is probably true. Although I wasn't an angel after Phillip spanked me, I can honestly say that I learned my lesson. And it was probably mostly because he talked to me afterwards (while I sat down on a very very hard chair), but the spanking sure did get my attention. So I realized the reason that he was so upset, which I could've realized anyway, but he did something my parents never did. He was rational, even though I'd first claimed he wasn't. He gave me chances, let me make mistakes, and helped me learn from them... even if helping was through a spanking. At least I learned.

Story: Bratty Little Sisters Are a Pain

Misc Story.  As the youngest child, Candi gets away with everything.  When she has to stay with her older brother for the week, she's infuriated with his rules and chooses to ignore them.  And then he embarrasses her in more ways than she could have imagined.

Bratty Little Sisters Are a Pain
by Breanna Carter

My friends and I had been practicing for this dance-off competition for weeks before my parents decided they wanted to go out of town and stick me with my brother for the week. I was livid... how could they pawn me off on him when they knew it was crucial that I be at the arcade everyday to practice? Not only that, but Danny's a hardass and is super-annoying and doesn't let me do what I want. And that bugs me. So that made it even worse that my parents decided to leave town.

"Can't you wait until after the tournament?" I begged, pleaded even. I was practically on my knees in front of them.

My father patted my head. "Candace, we'll only be gone for a short while and I'm sure Danny will take you to practice. It's not too far from his apartment complex."

"But you don't understand! I don't want to stay with Danny! He's boring and never lets me do anything."

"Well, then you should behave."

I pouted. I've been told that my parents spoil me because they had me at such a late age: my mom was 42 and father 45 when I was born. I was practically raised as an only child. Danny was the youngest of my siblings and he was 24, making him 13 years older than me. And he told me all the time that I was spoiled... so when I was with him, he made every effort possible to not have me do what I wanted to do.

"I always behave," I assured my father, still giving him a puppy face.

"Look," he began, stooping down to my level, "we'll get you a present while we're gone. How's that?"

"You could just let me go with you."

"You have school all week, or we would."

"I could miss school," I said, perking up a bit.

"No, Candace. I'm sorry, but you can't miss that much school. We're not discussing this anymore, okay?"

I folded my arms in a pout. "This SO isn't fair!" I yelled, then stormed off to my room, slamming the door. They hated it when I did that because apparently I acted like a six year old. But who cares? It wasn't fair to me that they were making me stay with stupid Danny all week. There'd be no way I could get any practicing in with him around!

The week actually started out better than I'd expected. Danny let me know quick that he wasn't putting up with my crap and told me that he didn't mind if I went to the arcade every evening, so long as I behaved and came back home at a decent hour. That was actually more than I'd expected. And everything was going by so smoothly until I waltzed in at 10 one night instead of the usual 9 o'clock curfew I'd been abiding by.

"Do you realize you're an hour late? I was just about to go to the arcade..." Danny began when I walked through the door.

"Give it a rest. It's only an extra hour. They don't close until 10 anyway, so I should be able to stay even later."

"Excuse me?" he began. "I don't need your sassiness, Missy."

"I'm not being sassy, I'm just telling you like it is. And don't call me missy." I shoved past him to the computer room, the place I'd been sleeping.

Danny was dumb-struck for a moment then followed me to the room. "Okay, if you're going to have this attitude, then you can tell your friends you're not going to be able to make it tomorrow night."

"What? Tomorrow's Friday! And everyone'll be there!" I yelped.

He smirked.

I narrowed my eyes. "Whatever," I muttered. "You can go now."

He shook his head at me. "You try to get out of this house tomorrow evening and you'll be sorry," he told me, then walked out, closing the door behind him.

I was so angry that I could feel tears rising. I threw my pillow across the room, then some stuffed animals to join it. They all slammed against the wall and fell pathetically to the floor. Someone had to feel my pain with me! Then I called my friend, Melissa, and explained to her what had happened.

"Dude, that's totally not fair," she said. "We've gotta get perfect so we'll kickass in the tournament! There's never been one here before... doesn't Danny understand that?"

"It doesn't matter, I'm coming tomorrow anyway. What's he going to do? Lock me in my room?"

"He might."

"He won't. I'll just call my dad and he'll talk some sense into Danny."

There was silence for a moment until Melissa told me that she needed to go because it was getting late. I agreed and hung up the phone, thankful that I at least had my own cell phone so I wouldn't have to pester my stupid older brother to use his phone at this time of night. He would freak out -- he already thought I should be in bed by 10 anyway.

The next morning I woke up early and got ready for school. I wasn't speaking to Danny because I was pissed about the previous night's events, and he didn't seem too concerned with it. For all I knew I was just having one of my preteen moments. That's what he called them anyway.

He was all dressed up nice in his work suit and everything when he began yelling, "come on Candi, it's time to go. We're going to be late."

"Shut up, I'm hurrying," I mumbled. I applied the last bit of makeup, much to his disliking, then grabbed my backpack and headed out of the door.

"You are to come straight home after school, do you understand?"

"Yeah, whatever."

"You know, your attitude really bothers me, Candace, and I'm inches away from doing something about it."

I didn't say anything, just continued down the hallway. I wasn't coming home after school anyway. I'd let the bus drop me off at the apartment complex then I'd walk to the arcade, like I did everyday after school. Danny wouldn't know until it was too late, and it's not like he'd do anything about it anyway. I mean, what could he do? Tell my parents? They wouldn't care... they'd just tell him that he should've let me go to the arcade anyway.

Of course, things didn't work out as planned. Danny must've gotten into my head and figured out that I was going to go to the arcade anyway, because he was waiting outside when the bus pulled up.

"What do you want?" I asked angrily.

"Just got in from work and was going to walk you up to the apartment," he said and smiled, because he knew I was furious with him.

"I can walk by myself thankyouverymuch," I told him and stormed by.

When we got inside the first thing I did was call my parents. "Dad! It's not fair! Danny's not letting me go anywhere! And it's Friday! And that's not fair!"

Danny kicked his shoes off and plopped down on the couch next to me, listening in on the conversation but saying nothing.

"Aww, honey, I'm sorry. Why won't he let you go?"

"Because he's mean! And he doesn't want me to win the tournament!"

"Well, I'm sure he has a good reason for not letting you go..."

"But Dad, he doesn't! Tell him that he should let me go!"

"Candi, if he said you can't go, then you can't."

I glared at Danny as my father sealed my fate. "Da-ad! That's not fair!" I pouted.

"Life's not fair honey, but I have to go. Is that all you needed?"

I poked out my lower lip in a pout. "Yes," I muttered.

"Okay, Mom and I love you. Will see you Monday."

"Yeah, okay, bye," I said and hung up the phone.

"I can't believe that you're actually my sister. They would have NEVER let any of the rest of us get by with the shit they put up with from you," Danny told me, standing up. "They would've put an end to that attitude ages ago." He stalked off to the computer room, leaving the tv on.

I actually sat there and watched tv for a while, feeling like there was no way I could go to the arcade now. Then I realized... wait a minute, I'm 11, I always walk to the arcade, and if I leave quietly, I can get there in no time and there's not a damn thing that Danny can do about it. I mean, what's he going to do? Come down to the arcade and drag me out? *Knock on wood.*

I shifted uncomfortably for a moment and craned my neck to listen to Danny pounding away on his computer.

Nah, he wouldn't come drag me out of the arcade. He'd call my cell phone to make sure I was okay and tell me that he was worried and tell me I could stay at the arcade just not worry him like that ever again. Yep, that's what he'd do. And I actually convinced myself of that.

I listened to the typing for a couple of more minutes before standing up. I put my cell phone in my pocket and tiptoed to the door. I took a deep breath then opened the door, letting it close as quietly as possible. Then I broke into a run and ran all the way down the hallway, then down the steps, and finally outside and half a block. Then I walked the rest of the way to the arcade.

I got there in no time and my friends were already there. "Thought you couldn't come?" Melissa said.

"I have my ways," I said, grinning mischieviously. I dug some quarters out of my pocket. "Let's get started so we can show off like mad-crazy tonight," I said, hopping to the machine and filling it with my money.

I must've played two or three games when the crowd started thickening. It was getting dark outside and we were warmed up enough to where we could show off. And of course, the team that we were up against was there... so we were showing off double-time.. even though our showing-off proved to no avail because they're much better than us. But that's only cause they're all in high school. It didn't matter, though... we had to show off because of the gorgeous guy. Who just happened to be watching us when I was in the midst of a very hard song and I began to be dragged off of the machine.

"What the hell!" I yelled, ready to punch someone in the face. Even more so when I realized it was Danny. "What are you doing? I was in the middle of a game!"

He didn't answer me, just said, "come on."

"Whatever. I'm staying and playing some more because you just messed up my game."

He didn't plead with me, just glared at me to where my stomach churned and said again, this time sterner, "come on."

I gave him a look as if saying he was crazy then got back on the dance machine to finish my game. By this time everyone was really watching and I said, "let's play Cartoon Heroes." Melissa looked at me, then my brother, then back at me. "Fine, I'll do it myself," I told her when she didn't find the song for us to play.

Danny was still glaring at me when I turned around and said, "you can go now, ya know."

He was infuriated. "Are you going to make me carry you out of here?"

"You wouldn't do that. Besides, I already put my money in to play this game..." Word of advice: never tell someone they "wouldn't" do something... because they would.

Danny walked up to me, put an arm around my waist, and within seconds, I was being hauled off. It took me a moment to realize what was happening, so I started kicking and screaming.

"Put me down, Daniel! Put me DOWN! Let go of me!"

He said nothing, but didn't put me down. No matter how hard I kicked him or how much I struggled, he was overpowering and determined to get me out of the damn arcade. When my brother is determined to do something, it gets done.

We finally got outside and he placed me on the ground and grabbed my upper arm to further drag me along. This was when it hit me how embarrassed I was for being carried out of an arcade full of my peers, and the gorgeous high school boy, and I started pitching a fit.

"What the hell are you doing! Why did you just do that to me! You just embarrassed me like mad-crazy! That's not fair!"

"You did that to yourself."

"It's not fair that you wouldn't let me go anyway. And let go of my damn arm, that really fucking hurts!"

That was what did it. He let go of my arm, all right, and stopped in the middle of the sidewalk and slapped me across the face. Not hard, just enough to stun me.

"Listen to me, Candace. I am sick and tired of the attitude you've been pulling, the way you've been acting, the defiance, the brattiness. It's gotten way out of hand and I know Mom and Dad let it slide but I'm not going to. Now, we still have two blocks left until we're home. I can either spank you right here and right now to get you to shut up, or you can shut up on your own."

I started at him, blinking. I couldn't even say anything because I was so shocked.

"Choose the latter, then? Let's go." He grabbed my upper arm again and kept dragging me to the house. I rubbed my cheek where he'd slapped me. He was capable of doing much worse, but no one in my family ever hit me, and definitely not Danny. Not to mention that he threatened to spank me? No one ever did that either! What a miserable weekend this was turning out to be!

He finally let go of my arm when we got to the apartment room and he pointed to the couch and said, "Sit."

I did as told (for once) and folded my arms, looking at the floor.

"Where do you get this idea from that you can follow your own rules and nobody else's? And what is with this bossy, miss-know-it-all, bratty attitude? First off, that's going to have to go if you ever want any good friends, because no one wants to hang out with someone who acts like that and I'm surprised as hell that Melissa puts up with it."

I opened my mouth to defend myself, but he interrupted me.

"And secondly, I know you didn't want to be here this week, but tough: you're here. And while you're here, you follow my rules, Young Lady. When I tell you to get here at a certain time, you will abide by that. If I tell you that you can't go somewhere, then you will not go. Do you understand?"

"Whatever," I popped off. Big mistake! That was when I crossed the line... well, I'd probably already crossed the line, but after that, he didn't even bother lecturing anymore.

"Fine," he said, then came over to the couch, lifting me up before sitting down and pulling me over his lap.

"What... what are you doing?!?" I shrieked.

He tugged down my windpants and panties and began spanking me. "Giving you something I should've given you at the beginning of the week."

"No! Stop it!" I yelled, fighting and struggling as he held me tighter and spanked harder. I kicked and wiggled, trying to roll off of his lap. "Let me go! Stop!!" I whined.

"Oh, I'm not stopping. You've been asking for this," he told me, "now stop moving."

"NO!"

"Fine.. have it your way. You'll just be over my lap much longer," he warned.

He proceeded to slap away at my backside and my struggles ceased. The spanking was hurting like crazy! In my entire 11 years, I'd never been spanked... not even once. And now Danny was wallopping me like our lives depended on it and it was killing me! Not only was I uber-embarrassed to be face down over his knee, but my backside was throbbing and that didn't help the situation any. I would've tried to stop squirming so much, but the combination of things kept that from happening.

"I'm sick and tired of your behavior, Candace," he told me.

"Ooowww!! I'm sorry! Stop!" I yelped.

"You're not sorry. You're sorry that you're getting spanked."

Damn, he's good.

"And I'm not stopping until you've learned your lesson. I'm not going to put up with this, do you understand me?"

"Oooh yesss I understand I've learned my lesson!! I'll be good!! Pleaseeee stop!!" I howled, trying to free my hands from his grip so I could reach back.

"You are NOT going to the arcade for the rest of the time you're here with me. I don't care what you do when you're at Mom and Dad's house, but when you're here, you're going to behave, and if I ever, and I mean *ever*, catch you pulling a stunt like you did today: the sneaking out, the attitude, the fighting, I'm going to take my belt off and teach you a thing or two with that, do you hear me?" he asked, beginning to swat my sitspots.

That sent a shiver down my spine and I whined, "yesss, I understand. Pleaseee, Danny. Please stopppp that hurtssss." By this time, tears were beginning to stream down my face and I was bawling like a baby.

"Are you going to straighten up your attitude?" he asked.

"Y-yessss, I promise," I cried.

"And no more sneaking out of the house?"

"Noooooo," I said, kicking slightly.

He continued spanking for a bit longer, certain to hit my sit spots in such a way that I would feel it for a while, then stopped.

"Now, get up and go stand in the corner and don't so much as move an inch, got it? If you take your nose out of that corner, I will not hesitate to give you another spanking, and believe me, one spanking over another hurts like hell."

I sniffled and wiped my eyes, then hopped off of his lap accepting a swat before planting my nose in the corner.

"Oh, and no rubbing," he added, then shuffled away.

I leaned my head against the wall for a while and cried, letting the tears stream down my face. That's all I did was cry and sniffle, until my head was killing me and I couldn't breathe. Not to mention my backside was killing me. I'd never endured such pain in my entire life. Then I began to feel bad for what I'd done, which is rare. When did I start having a conscience?

Danny came back about ten minutes after he left me there. "Pull your pants up and come here," he said.

I sniffled again and wiped my eyes again, then pulled them up, wincing as the material passed over my aching bottom, and walked towards my older brother. He peered down at me and I felt so small. I sniffled again. And then he did something I didn't expect: he hugged me. I felt warm in his embrace, then he sat me down and sat down next to me.

"Listen, okay?"

I nodded.

"I love you, kid sis, even if we give each other a hard time sometimes. I don't impose rules on you to be an asshole. I don't want you in by nine everynight just to give you something to complain about. The point is, you're only eleven years old and walking to and from the arcade at night by yourself is dangerous. I'd much rather you get a ride from Melissa's mom, and that's why your curfew is nine, because that's when she has to go home. And another thing: you can't just randomly sneak out of the house. What if something happened to you? I'd have no idea where you were."

I nodded again, twiddling my thumbs and staring at the carpet. "I'm sorry," I whispered.

"You're forgiven, Candi... but remember if you start getting an attitude with me again or try to sneak out, you will *not* be able to sit, got it?"

I winced. "I got it," I told him, then hugged him a final time before stalking off to my room for bed. I caught a glimpse of my red backside when I changed into my pjs, then lay on my tummy trying to rub the sting away before drifting off into a sweet sleep.

Story: DDR Junkies

Misc Story.  Mia is grumpy that she has to spend so much time at the casino hotel while her mom gambles.  At least they have Dance Dance Revolution in the arcade.  With the video game and the presence of her two new acquaintances, it turns out not to be so bad.  (Playful spankings and a serious one.  This story is different from a lot of my other ones.)

DDR Junkies
by Breanna Carter

The oddest place to meet someone is in the arcade of a casino hotel. My mom had a complimentary room at a riverboat casino a couple of hours away from our house and claimed that I must go with her -- nevermind I was almost seventeen and should be able to stay home alone. She didn't care about that. Of course, looking back, I have no regrets. I wouldn't have changed that night to save my life.

We arrived to the hotel sometime late in the evening on Friday, the middle of April. We had enough time to walk the bellhop to our 14th floor room before our seven o'clock dinner reservations at the steakhouse. This hotel was becoming my second home -- the hotel closer to my house was a first home. You know how casinos work: you go there, spend your money, win every so often, and they send you coupons in the mail that lure you there. "Free hotel room" or "Free dinner for two" or "free gift" in bold red letters with the false hope that you're receiving more than you're giving. But I couldn't stop my mom from going because I loved the free chocolate ice cream as much as she loved playing the penny slots. I just hated spending the weekend alone in a hotel room hours away from home. I couldn't even call my friends because it was long distance -- and the hotel didn't have MTV. So I was setting myself up for a miserable night.

"Oh, look! I never noticed the arcade before!" my mom said, pointing to a sign that identified the arcade as being in the basement.

"Oh joy," I mumbled, mainly to myself. Not that I didn't like arcades, I just knew it would be full of twelve year olds and I would be forced to stay there all night if I wanted any sort of entertainment.

We made our way to the end of the hallway where there was a cluster of restaurants. The steakhouse was secluded: it was a place dedicated to the elite or heavy gamblers (we, of course, fell into the latter category). Conversation was a dull murmur and the piano played a Beethoven tune that I couldn't place a name to. Our host was a gorgeous Latino who had an adorable accent and pulled my chair out for me. Our waiter was the exact opposite -- an old white man with gray hair who couldn't hear us and never refilled my drink.

"Mia," my mom began.

Oh great... she was giving me that look. The same one she'd given me for months, at least since she found out about my self-injury problem.

"Truthfully... Are you okay? You seem so down lately."

"Sure I'm okay. Why wouldn't I be?"

She sighed, shaking her head at me, probably thinking about how she couldn't understand teen angst. "I don't know. You seem so unhappy."

I shrugged my shoulders and crammed the steak in my mouth to avoid further conversation.

But she persisted, "maybe they have that game you like... the dancing game, you know? I'll play with you if you'd like."

"Don't worry about it, Mom," I said. "They probably won't have it anyway." With my negative attitude, I managed to either aggravate or depress my mom enough to shut her up. I just politely finished my meal and watched her sign off for the comp meal. She then handed me the doggie bag.

"I'm going to play for a while. Here's some money for the arcade. I'll see you later." She planted a kiss on my forehead and slipped me a twenty dollar bill.

I ambled down the hallway looking on the bright side of things. At least if I got too bored I could call room service for ice cream and rent a pay-per-view movie. Besides, if the arcade had the dancing game, which was called DDR, I could play at least twenty times. That could easily kill a couple of hours.

I decided to stop by the room first to drop off the doggie bag and settle my stomach. I pressed the up arrow and waited for the elevator. I was getting anxious and feeling oddly out of place when there was a ding and one of the doors opened. I stepped inside next to a man with emo glasses who was smoking a cigarette.

"In for the night already? You must've hit a big jackpot," he said as the elevator ascended.

I looked at him.

He smiled. "I'm Jamie," and extended his hand.

"Mia," I muttered, shaking his hand, "and I'm not even old enough to get in the casino."

He didn't seem surprised. "They're no fun anyway."

"So why are you here?" I asked in an angry tone. Part of that teen angst, I guesss.

"Doctor said I needed a vacation. Almost time for finals and just got over my cat's death and a horrible breakup with my boyfriend. The jerk."

I still stared at him.

"And when my doctor found out I sliced my wrists he put me on meds and demanded a vacation."

Who tells this to people in an elevator? I wondered. But I had to look at his wrists anyway. He was wearing long sleeves.

"Not really, baby. There was a breakup and cat death, but no meds and no sliced wrists. Am I making you uncomfortable?"

I raised my eyebrows. "No, not at all." Truth was, I actually kind of liked him. He was open, nice, and fairly attractive, even if he was a gay man. Not saying gay men aren't attractive, just that they're totally off limits. A friend of mine once had a crush on a gay man... the only problem was that, well, he was gay and she was a woman.

The elevator dinged on the twelfth floor and the doors parted. "Well, nice to meet you, Mia," he said. "You seem pretty cool."

As he turned to walk away I wanted to invite him to play DDR with me and maybe even to the room for some ice cream and PPV. But I didn't -- I just let him walk off, and the doors closed and the elevator continued on its way to my floor.

I could only stand being alone in the room for about thirty minutes. I kept thinking about Jamie and wondered if it'd be weird to walk around on the twelfth floor for a little while to see if he came out... maybe to the coke machine. But that would be too stalker-ish, so I changed into my pja pants, put on some flipflops and went down to the basement.

I wouldn't have found the arcade if it hadn't been for the random signs. It was in a corner of its own, no windows, no loud noises. I almost decided to not go inside, but there was a sign on the door that said "24-hour Arcade" and I couldn't resist. I pushed it open.

It wasn't the best arcade I'd ever been in. Some of the games were old and outdated, others didn't work. I ambled through the mass of games, deciding which ones I would play and losing hope of them having a DDR machine. I was about to turn around and go back to my room when I recognized Jamie at the token machine.

"Was this part of the therapy?" I teased.

He turned around and smiled. "It sure was. I'm totally addicted to Dance Dance Revolution."

"No shit!" I squealed, taking a step back. "Me too! I love that game!"

Jamie inserted a five dollar bill into the token machine and twenty tokens spilled out. "You're on, then. There's another kid over there who's pretty awesome, too. He's probably around your age. How old are you anyway?"

"Seventeen.... almost. How old are you?"

"Holyshit, I'm old! I'm 23."

"That's not old."

"Too old to be playing DDR with a couple of sixteen year olds."

"True, but I won't hold it against you." I then put the twenty dollar bill in the machine to exchange for tokens and loaded them into my pockets. "Especially after I kick your ass."

He smirked and showed me towards the DDR machine. A boy was playing and Jamie had been right, he did look about my age. He was sort of cute, in more of a boyish way. He had dark skin, like he was mixed African American and Caucasian. His hair was short and black. He was wearing baggy jeans and a T-shirt. He wasn't chubby but not scrawny either, the perfect size. And damn, he was good. He was playing on heavy mode which is like the fourth level.

"He's being a showoff," Jamie whispered, then said, "but isn't he adorable?"

I blushed and nodded. While this kid was about my height and average build, Jamie was tall and thin with the build of someone in the military.

The song was over and the boy turned around. "That was horrible!" he said then caught my eye and grinned. "I'm Zach."

I introduced myself and nodded.

"So let's see how good you are," Jamie demanded, playfully shoving me to the dance pad. I wanted to showoff with someone difficult but not so difficult that I screwed up a lot. I decided to go with standard mode -- the third level -- and pick my favorite song. I breezed through it with all perfects and greats. Then I chose another song I was really good at called Cow Girl. For the last one I picked yet another familiar song and when it started the boys were giggling behind me. I didn't realize what they were snickering at until the steps came up and it was something totally different than what I was used to.

"What the hell..." I swore aloud.

They giggled louder and I noticed they had changed my level without my knowledge. I cussed them as I attempted to play, then the game stopped and the screen was black for a split second until it said FAILED in big blue letters. I stomped on the pad in frustration and glared at the boys. No hard feelings, though. The three of us took turns playing together and picking hard songs we knew the other person would do badly on. Jamie and I were about the same level and it was obvious that Zach was better than us both. After about an hour playing, Jamie wanted a cigarette, and I wanted some water, and Zach wanted to rest. So we went back outside, found a coke machine and plopped down against the wall, talking. I learned that Zach and I had met before because his father worked at the hotel and he was there all the time. He was fifteen years old and had an older half-sister from his mother's previous marriage, but she was in college in Boston. Jamie was adopted, had a younger sister and older brother in his adopted family. Most of his family was okay with his homosexuality. He loved acting and writing and was majoring in English to be a high school teacher.

"So what's your story?" Jamie asked taking a long drag off his cigarette.

I took a deep breath in, wondering where to start and how much to say. "My mom has a gambling problem so she has loads of complimentary shit. I'm uber cynical. And I'll be glad when high school is over so I can go far away for college."

"What are you going to be when you grow up?" Zach asked.

I shrugged. "I dunno. I know I want a lot of money, that's for sure."

Jamie finished smoking and the mood got lighter when we pushed the door to the arcade back open.

"I have an idea," Zach said when we once again arrived by the game.

"Do share," I replied and Jamie nodded encouragingly.

"We could make it a competition," he said, then glanced at his watch. "It's nearly one so no one will be coming in probably. We can play on our comfortable mode and choose random songs."

"What's in it for the winner?" Jamie asked.

"After every game, winner spanks the loser."

My heart skipped a beat and weird things happened inside my body. I began to feel nervously excited. The thought of either of them spanking me brought about some weird emotions. I wasn't sure if I wanted it or feared it.

"Sounds like a deal to me," Jamie said, and I seconded it. I volunteered for Jamie and Zach to go first. Zach was a math whiz and had the determining factors all figured out. I just wanted to see one of them spank the other.

I sat back, watching them compete. They were really getting into it. Truthfully, neither did that well on the first two songs, but the last one, Zach kicked ass and later calculated his win. Jamie didn't seem too worried.

My heart began racing as Zach smirked at Jamie then sat down patting his lap. "Come over my lap," he said and winked.

You've got to be kidding me! I thought. Jamie was eight years older than Zach, not to mention waay taller! But he smiled back and made a suggestive "ooo!" noise, then leaned over his lap. My throat was so dry, I couldn't speak. Even after Zach said "tell me when two minutes is up" all I could do was nod. He lifted his hand and slapped Jamie's bottom mildly a couple of times and they were both laughing a little until Zach began to hit harder and Jamie said, "damn! that kinda hurts!" And that did it. I think after that we were not only competing to win DDR, but also to see who could spank the hardest.

"Okay," I said, though I hadn't wanted the spanking to end. Or maybe I did -- it was getting me a little too excited.

Jamie pushed off of Zach's lap and rubbed his bottom. "That so didn't hurt," he said and pulled me up to compete. I was so nervous that my heart was racing and I was shaking a little. I took a deep breath and pretended to be cool. I definitely wasn't going to lose on purpose, but it sure was on my mind.

I lucked out on the first song -- the game just happened to pick a song that I was familiar with and Zach was terrible at. Of course, the second song made me so nervous that I did horribly, and the final song was one that I'd never been able to play.

"I win again," Zach teased, and took a seat on the dance pad.

"Hey, that's twice in a row... I think he's cheating!" I protested to Jamie.

"Oh stop your whining. He doesn't spank *that* hard."

Zach gave Jamie an evil look and pulled me over his lap. I wanted to make more protests, but curiousity kept my mouth shut. My heart raced more than it ever had before and my throat was dry with nervousness. All of these thoughts kept running through my head: what if someone sees? What if it hurts? What if I like it? Am I supposed to like it? Will he like it, too?

I felt his warm hand rest on my pajama-clad bum. He was breathing heavily from having played so much. I felt his other arm wrap around my stomach and he shifted a little when he asked Jamie about timing it. Then he said, "Jamie thinks I don't spank hard, but we'll see about that."

I opened my mouth to assure him we didn't have to prove anyone wrong, but I was unable to speak. And then, without warning, he delivered the first blow. It caught me by surprise and I think I yelped a little. I thought about backing out and claiming I didn't want to participate, but my pride wouldn't allow it. Not to mention that even through the sting, I was enjoying myself. He smacked me good a few more times and before I knew it I was squirming like crazy. Jamie was liar! Zach did spank hard, especially for a fifteen year old! Not to mention I was in a thin pair of pjs and he showed me absolutely no mercy.

I was a little relieved, a little sad, when Jamie announced it'd been two minutes. I sprang up and rubbed my bum. It smarted like crazy! Jamie stood and inserted his tokens and then dragged me over to put in my own tokens. I gave a pathetic look, still rubbing my bottom.

"Awww, you're too adorable. We'll go easy on you," Jamie said.

Yeah right, I thought and began the next game. Needless to say, Jamie kicked my ass and then spanked me -- which on top of my previous spanking, hurt so good. By the time he finished with me, I was thankful to have a break and winced when I sat back down on the floor.

We continued like that until we all ran out of money. Of course, technically that couldn't happen since Zach's dad could find some tokens for us... but we really didn't want to stay there all night and we were getting tired and sore (in more than one place..).

"You guys want to come by my room and watch a movie or just hang out?" Jamie asked. "It's only 2:30 and I'd love the company."

"That'd be awesome, as soon as I leave my mom a note and get something from my room."

"Yeah and I should talk to my dad."

We walked with Zach to speak with his father and introduced ourselves. His dad was pretty cool... a lot like Zach in different ways. I idly wondered if he spanked like Zach... or spanked Zach, for that matter.

Then we took the elevator to my floor and they chatted while I wrote my mom a note (as if she'd be back before me anyway). Before I left, however, I dug through my duffle bag and stuffed my pipe and some weed in the pocket of my pj pants. I somehow managed to do that without them seeing.

We arrived to Jamie's room and joked around for a while until I said, "we should go outside and smoke."

At the same time Jamie said, "this is a smoking room" and Zach said "but you don't smoke."

I blinked. "Then, um, I'm going out on the balcony."

I watched them exchange glances before I turned around and took the pipe out of my pocket.

"What the hell..." Jamie said.

"Mia... you smoke weed?"

"Like hell she does!" Jamie exclaimed then ran towards me, blocking my way outside.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

"You're not smoking that shit," he told me.

I blinked. "Excuse me?" I said and folded my arms. He didn't budge. "Fine, I can just light it up in here..."

Without warning, Zach snatched it from me.

"What the fuck are you doing?" I growled, but I really wasn't that angry. Actually, I thought it was kind of cool they were being so protective. As an only child, I wasn't offered that much of the time.

"Flushing this shit down the toilet," Zach said. His face was all serious now -- no jokes.

"Don't do that.."

"Mia, you don't need marijuana. It's more trouble than it's worth... trust me, I know," Jamie said.

I turned to him and back to Zach who still had my weed. "I won't smoke it now," I pleaded.

"Maybe a spanking will change her mind," Zach said over my shoulder to Jamie.

"Now wait a sec..." I began, feeling that nervousness again inside of me.

"Maybe it will," Jamie observed and walked past me, grabbing my wrist in the process and leading me over to the bed.

"No no no..." I begged. "It's okay... really, I won't smoke it now."

"You're right you won't. Not now, or ever, when I get finished with you."

I gulped audibly.

He tossed me over his knee. "Jamie... please... I'm not going to do it!" I begged.

He ignored me and slapped my backside rhythmetically, starting out mild but getting firmer by the second.

"Jamie!" I howled. This hurt so much more than the playful "loser" spankings we'd given each other earlier. Of course, my ass still hurt from those anyway, so that probably contributed to the pain. "Please stop."

I'd begun kicking by this time and holding my face in my hands bceause I didn't want to cry out too loudly. Jamie sure knew how to spank! I wondered if he'd had tons of practice or what. It was killing me.

After spanking for what felt like hours, he finally stopped. "Looks like a pants-down spanking is what you're in for," Jamie told me.

I squealed and squirmed when he grabbed the waistband of my pj pants. "Nooooo... you can't do that!" I objected.

He slapped a sitspot forcefully. "Stop squirming!" he ordered, then slipped my pants down to my knees, taking my panties with them. I shivered and squirmed some more, reaching my hands back to protect my backside from assault.

"Move your hands," he said, and when I shook my head, he moved them for me and delivered a sharp smack. I squealed like never before and continued to wiggle, trying to free my hands from his tight grip. In fact, I wiggled so much he actually stopped for a moment to reposition me. "Zach, you can have your turn," he said.

"No no no!" I begged. "No more! I've had enough! You can throw it away!"

Like always, they ignored me. Jamie helped me over Zach's lap. The only problem was that Zach was probably less experienced so when I began squirming, I was all ove rthe place. Jamie warned me to be still... more than once. Finally fed up, Zach stopped. "I have a better idea," he said. I felt myself being lifted and practically thrown on the bed (on my stomach of course). Zach proceeded to sit on my lower back, legs on either side of me like I was a horse or something. The sad thing is, I was actually really enjoying this. I can't help that I reached back after that... and then wouldn't move my hands. "Will you hold those for me?" Zach asked Jamie, referring to my hands.

Jamie grabbed both of my wrists and held them tightly in front of me. Zach spanked as hard as he could and I was so restrained I couldn't move. The control was out of my hands -- I couldn't get out of it. These boys meant business. And that's when I began to cry. I cried because I couldn't make them stop. I cried because I barely knew them and they still cared enough about me to try and prevent me from doing something illegal and unsafe. I cried and cried and cried until Zach was next to me instead of on top and Jamie's arm was thrown around me. Someone was rubbing my backside and it was so soothing. We lay there forever, my pants on the floor but my panties up. I was startled when there was an angry knock on the door. I rushed to claim my pants and Jamie opened the door. My mom was standing there, hands on hips.

"Let's go," she said angrily.

I didn't have the chance to try and get their numbers because she was dragging me away, muttering obscenities. "The nerve!" she was saying. "How dare you spend the night with two boys you don't even know!" and went on to accuse me of everything from sex to drugs. I just ignored her, remembering the night. She made me pack up my stuff when we got back to the room and we left right away.

Needless to say, I didn't see the casino much after that. I usually found her complimentary hotel rooms in the trashcan. We never spoke of it after that morning -- she'd asked and I'd told the truth: no sex, no drugs, only watching tv. I doubt she believed me, but it didn't matter.

I thought about that night almost everyday. Of course I never saw Jamie or Zach again, even though I tried a couple of times. I always wondered how it would have turned out if we'd exchanged numbers. Would I have adopted an older and younger brother? Would we go to the arcade every weekend and play? Would I eventually beat both of them? Would I be spanked all the time?

The cool thing is, I never smoked again.
