Bratty Little Sisters Are a Pain
by Breanna Carter
My friends and I had been practicing for this dance-off competition for weeks before my parents decided they wanted to go out of town and stick me with my brother for the week. I was livid... how could they pawn me off on him when they knew it was crucial that I be at the arcade everyday to practice? Not only that, but Danny's a hardass and is super-annoying and doesn't let me do what I want. And that bugs me. So that made it even worse that my parents decided to leave town.
"Can't you wait until after the tournament?" I begged, pleaded even. I was practically on my knees in front of them.
My father patted my head. "Candace, we'll only be gone for a short while and I'm sure Danny will take you to practice. It's not too far from his apartment complex."
"But you don't understand! I don't want to stay with Danny! He's boring and never lets me do anything."
"Well, then you should behave."
I pouted. I've been told that my parents spoil me because they had me at such a late age: my mom was 42 and father 45 when I was born. I was practically raised as an only child. Danny was the youngest of my siblings and he was 24, making him 13 years older than me. And he told me all the time that I was spoiled... so when I was with him, he made every effort possible to not have me do what I wanted to do.
"I always behave," I assured my father, still giving him a puppy face.
"Look," he began, stooping down to my level, "we'll get you a present while we're gone. How's that?"
"You could just let me go with you."
"You have school all week, or we would."
"I could miss school," I said, perking up a bit.
"No, Candace. I'm sorry, but you can't miss that much school. We're not discussing this anymore, okay?"
I folded my arms in a pout. "This SO isn't fair!" I yelled, then stormed off to my room, slamming the door. They hated it when I did that because apparently I acted like a six year old. But who cares? It wasn't fair to me that they were making me stay with stupid Danny all week. There'd be no way I could get any practicing in with him around!
The week actually started out better than I'd expected. Danny let me know quick that he wasn't putting up with my crap and told me that he didn't mind if I went to the arcade every evening, so long as I behaved and came back home at a decent hour. That was actually more than I'd expected. And everything was going by so smoothly until I waltzed in at 10 one night instead of the usual 9 o'clock curfew I'd been abiding by.
"Do you realize you're an hour late? I was just about to go to the arcade..." Danny began when I walked through the door.
"Give it a rest. It's only an extra hour. They don't close until 10 anyway, so I should be able to stay even later."
"Excuse me?" he began. "I don't need your sassiness, Missy."
"I'm not being sassy, I'm just telling you like it is. And don't call me missy." I shoved past him to the computer room, the place I'd been sleeping.
Danny was dumb-struck for a moment then followed me to the room. "Okay, if you're going to have this attitude, then you can tell your friends you're not going to be able to make it tomorrow night."
"What? Tomorrow's Friday! And everyone'll be there!" I yelped.
I narrowed my eyes. "Whatever," I muttered. "You can go now."
He shook his head at me. "You try to get out of this house tomorrow evening and you'll be sorry," he told me, then walked out, closing the door behind him.
I was so angry that I could feel tears rising. I threw my pillow across the room, then some stuffed animals to join it. They all slammed against the wall and fell pathetically to the floor. Someone had to feel my pain with me! Then I called my friend, Melissa, and explained to her what had happened.
"Dude, that's totally not fair," she said. "We've gotta get perfect so we'll kickass in the tournament! There's never been one here before... doesn't Danny understand that?"
"It doesn't matter, I'm coming tomorrow anyway. What's he going to do? Lock me in my room?"
"He won't. I'll just call my dad and he'll talk some sense into Danny."
There was silence for a moment until Melissa told me that she needed to go because it was getting late. I agreed and hung up the phone, thankful that I at least had my own cell phone so I wouldn't have to pester my stupid older brother to use his phone at this time of night. He would freak out -- he already thought I should be in bed by 10 anyway.
The next morning I woke up early and got ready for school. I wasn't speaking to Danny because I was pissed about the previous night's events, and he didn't seem too concerned with it. For all I knew I was just having one of my preteen moments. That's what he called them anyway.
He was all dressed up nice in his work suit and everything when he began yelling, "come on Candi, it's time to go. We're going to be late."
"Shut up, I'm hurrying," I mumbled. I applied the last bit of makeup, much to his disliking, then grabbed my backpack and headed out of the door.
"You are to come straight home after school, do you understand?"
"You know, your attitude really bothers me, Candace, and I'm inches away from doing something about it."
I didn't say anything, just continued down the hallway. I wasn't coming home after school anyway. I'd let the bus drop me off at the apartment complex then I'd walk to the arcade, like I did everyday after school. Danny wouldn't know until it was too late, and it's not like he'd do anything about it anyway. I mean, what could he do? Tell my parents? They wouldn't care... they'd just tell him that he should've let me go to the arcade anyway.
Of course, things didn't work out as planned. Danny must've gotten into my head and figured out that I was going to go to the arcade anyway, because he was waiting outside when the bus pulled up.
"What do you want?" I asked angrily.
"Just got in from work and was going to walk you up to the apartment," he said and smiled, because he knew I was furious with him.
"I can walk by myself thankyouverymuch," I told him and stormed by.
When we got inside the first thing I did was call my parents. "Dad! It's not fair! Danny's not letting me go anywhere! And it's Friday! And that's not fair!"
Danny kicked his shoes off and plopped down on the couch next to me, listening in on the conversation but saying nothing.
"Aww, honey, I'm sorry. Why won't he let you go?"
"Because he's mean! And he doesn't want me to win the tournament!"
"Well, I'm sure he has a good reason for not letting you go..."
"But Dad, he doesn't! Tell him that he should let me go!"
"Candi, if he said you can't go, then you can't."
I glared at Danny as my father sealed my fate. "Da-ad! That's not fair!" I pouted.
"Life's not fair honey, but I have to go. Is that all you needed?"
I poked out my lower lip in a pout. "Yes," I muttered.
"Okay, Mom and I love you. Will see you Monday."
"Yeah, okay, bye," I said and hung up the phone.
"I can't believe that you're actually my sister. They would have NEVER let any of the rest of us get by with the shit they put up with from you," Danny told me, standing up. "They would've put an end to that attitude ages ago." He stalked off to the computer room, leaving the tv on.
I actually sat there and watched tv for a while, feeling like there was no way I could go to the arcade now. Then I realized... wait a minute, I'm 11, I always walk to the arcade, and if I leave quietly, I can get there in no time and there's not a damn thing that Danny can do about it. I mean, what's he going to do? Come down to the arcade and drag me out? *Knock on wood.*
I shifted uncomfortably for a moment and craned my neck to listen to Danny pounding away on his computer.
Nah, he wouldn't come drag me out of the arcade. He'd call my cell phone to make sure I was okay and tell me that he was worried and tell me I could stay at the arcade just not worry him like that ever again. Yep, that's what he'd do. And I actually convinced myself of that.
I listened to the typing for a couple of more minutes before standing up. I put my cell phone in my pocket and tiptoed to the door. I took a deep breath then opened the door, letting it close as quietly as possible. Then I broke into a run and ran all the way down the hallway, then down the steps, and finally outside and half a block. Then I walked the rest of the way to the arcade.
I got there in no time and my friends were already there. "Thought you couldn't come?" Melissa said.
"I have my ways," I said, grinning mischieviously. I dug some quarters out of my pocket. "Let's get started so we can show off like mad-crazy tonight," I said, hopping to the machine and filling it with my money.
I must've played two or three games when the crowd started thickening. It was getting dark outside and we were warmed up enough to where we could show off. And of course, the team that we were up against was there... so we were showing off double-time.. even though our showing-off proved to no avail because they're much better than us. But that's only cause they're all in high school. It didn't matter, though... we had to show off because of the gorgeous guy. Who just happened to be watching us when I was in the midst of a very hard song and I began to be dragged off of the machine.
"What the hell!" I yelled, ready to punch someone in the face. Even more so when I realized it was Danny. "What are you doing? I was in the middle of a game!"
He didn't answer me, just said, "come on."
"Whatever. I'm staying and playing some more because you just messed up my game."
He didn't plead with me, just glared at me to where my stomach churned and said again, this time sterner, "come on."
I gave him a look as if saying he was crazy then got back on the dance machine to finish my game. By this time everyone was really watching and I said, "let's play Cartoon Heroes." Melissa looked at me, then my brother, then back at me. "Fine, I'll do it myself," I told her when she didn't find the song for us to play.
Danny was still glaring at me when I turned around and said, "you can go now, ya know."
He was infuriated. "Are you going to make me carry you out of here?"
"You wouldn't do that. Besides, I already put my money in to play this game..." Word of advice: never tell someone they "wouldn't" do something... because they would.
Danny walked up to me, put an arm around my waist, and within seconds, I was being hauled off. It took me a moment to realize what was happening, so I started kicking and screaming.
"Put me down, Daniel! Put me DOWN! Let go of me!"
He said nothing, but didn't put me down. No matter how hard I kicked him or how much I struggled, he was overpowering and determined to get me out of the damn arcade. When my brother is determined to do something, it gets done.
We finally got outside and he placed me on the ground and grabbed my upper arm to further drag me along. This was when it hit me how embarrassed I was for being carried out of an arcade full of my peers, and the gorgeous high school boy, and I started pitching a fit.
"What the hell are you doing! Why did you just do that to me! You just embarrassed me like mad-crazy! That's not fair!"
"You did that to yourself."
"It's not fair that you wouldn't let me go anyway. And let go of my damn arm, that really fucking hurts!"
That was what did it. He let go of my arm, all right, and stopped in the middle of the sidewalk and slapped me across the face. Not hard, just enough to stun me.
"Listen to me, Candace. I am sick and tired of the attitude you've been pulling, the way you've been acting, the defiance, the brattiness. It's gotten way out of hand and I know Mom and Dad let it slide but I'm not going to. Now, we still have two blocks left until we're home. I can either spank you right here and right now to get you to shut up, or you can shut up on your own."
I started at him, blinking. I couldn't even say anything because I was so shocked.
"Choose the latter, then? Let's go." He grabbed my upper arm again and kept dragging me to the house. I rubbed my cheek where he'd slapped me. He was capable of doing much worse, but no one in my family ever hit me, and definitely not Danny. Not to mention that he threatened to spank me? No one ever did that either! What a miserable weekend this was turning out to be!
He finally let go of my arm when we got to the apartment room and he pointed to the couch and said, "Sit."
I did as told (for once) and folded my arms, looking at the floor.
"Where do you get this idea from that you can follow your own rules and nobody else's? And what is with this bossy, miss-know-it-all, bratty attitude? First off, that's going to have to go if you ever want any good friends, because no one wants to hang out with someone who acts like that and I'm surprised as hell that Melissa puts up with it."
I opened my mouth to defend myself, but he interrupted me.
"And secondly, I know you didn't want to be here this week, but tough: you're here. And while you're here, you follow my rules, Young Lady. When I tell you to get here at a certain time, you will abide by that. If I tell you that you can't go somewhere, then you will not go. Do you understand?"
"Whatever," I popped off. Big mistake! That was when I crossed the line... well, I'd probably already crossed the line, but after that, he didn't even bother lecturing anymore.
"Fine," he said, then came over to the couch, lifting me up before sitting down and pulling me over his lap.
"What... what are you doing?!?" I shrieked.
He tugged down my windpants and panties and began spanking me. "Giving you something I should've given you at the beginning of the week."
"No! Stop it!" I yelled, fighting and struggling as he held me tighter and spanked harder. I kicked and wiggled, trying to roll off of his lap. "Let me go! Stop!!" I whined.
"Oh, I'm not stopping. You've been asking for this," he told me, "now stop moving."
"Fine.. have it your way. You'll just be over my lap much longer," he warned.
He proceeded to slap away at my backside and my struggles ceased. The spanking was hurting like crazy! In my entire 11 years, I'd never been spanked... not even once. And now Danny was wallopping me like our lives depended on it and it was killing me! Not only was I uber-embarrassed to be face down over his knee, but my backside was throbbing and that didn't help the situation any. I would've tried to stop squirming so much, but the combination of things kept that from happening.
"I'm sick and tired of your behavior, Candace," he told me.
"Ooowww!! I'm sorry! Stop!" I yelped.
"You're not sorry. You're sorry that you're getting spanked."
Damn, he's good.
"And I'm not stopping until you've learned your lesson. I'm not going to put up with this, do you understand me?"
"Oooh yesss I understand I've learned my lesson!! I'll be good!! Pleaseeee stop!!" I howled, trying to free my hands from his grip so I could reach back.
"You are NOT going to the arcade for the rest of the time you're here with me. I don't care what you do when you're at Mom and Dad's house, but when you're here, you're going to behave, and if I ever, and I mean *ever*, catch you pulling a stunt like you did today: the sneaking out, the attitude, the fighting, I'm going to take my belt off and teach you a thing or two with that, do you hear me?" he asked, beginning to swat my sitspots.
That sent a shiver down my spine and I whined, "yesss, I understand. Pleaseee, Danny. Please stopppp that hurtssss." By this time, tears were beginning to stream down my face and I was bawling like a baby.
"Are you going to straighten up your attitude?" he asked.
"Y-yessss, I promise," I cried.
"And no more sneaking out of the house?"
"Noooooo," I said, kicking slightly.
He continued spanking for a bit longer, certain to hit my sit spots in such a way that I would feel it for a while, then stopped.
"Now, get up and go stand in the corner and don't so much as move an inch, got it? If you take your nose out of that corner, I will not hesitate to give you another spanking, and believe me, one spanking over another hurts like hell."
I sniffled and wiped my eyes, then hopped off of his lap accepting a swat before planting my nose in the corner.
"Oh, and no rubbing," he added, then shuffled away.
I leaned my head against the wall for a while and cried, letting the tears stream down my face. That's all I did was cry and sniffle, until my head was killing me and I couldn't breathe. Not to mention my backside was killing me. I'd never endured such pain in my entire life. Then I began to feel bad for what I'd done, which is rare. When did I start having a conscience?
Danny came back about ten minutes after he left me there. "Pull your pants up and come here," he said.
I sniffled again and wiped my eyes again, then pulled them up, wincing as the material passed over my aching bottom, and walked towards my older brother. He peered down at me and I felt so small. I sniffled again. And then he did something I didn't expect: he hugged me. I felt warm in his embrace, then he sat me down and sat down next to me.
"I love you, kid sis, even if we give each other a hard time sometimes. I don't impose rules on you to be an asshole. I don't want you in by nine everynight just to give you something to complain about. The point is, you're only eleven years old and walking to and from the arcade at night by yourself is dangerous. I'd much rather you get a ride from Melissa's mom, and that's why your curfew is nine, because that's when she has to go home. And another thing: you can't just randomly sneak out of the house. What if something happened to you? I'd have no idea where you were."
I nodded again, twiddling my thumbs and staring at the carpet. "I'm sorry," I whispered.
"You're forgiven, Candi... but remember if you start getting an attitude with me again or try to sneak out, you will *not* be able to sit, got it?"
I winced. "I got it," I told him, then hugged him a final time before stalking off to my room for bed. I caught a glimpse of my red backside when I changed into my pjs, then lay on my tummy trying to rub the sting away before drifting off into a sweet sleep.
